1. They had no trouble scoring last season. Their offensive rating was 112.5. The team with the 2nd best offensive rating was the Thunder at 109.9. So they were nearly 3 points better than the 2nd place team. That number really cannot be improved on much if at all.

The only teams in recent history who could rival that offensive rating were the 7 seconds or less Phoenix Suns at their peak.

2. Their defense has gotten worse. Bogut is gone, and he was a great rim protector. Ezeli will be gone, and he was one of the best rim protectors in the league. Barnes is gone, and he was solid on defense at the SF spot.

Their defense may not be a lot worse, but it certainly didn't get better.

3. Kevin Durant is an isolation player. Golden State's offense relies on running off of screens, passing, and shooting. How is Kevin Durant going to mesh with that offense? Is he going to change his game to fit the system? Or is the system going to change to fit Kevin Durant?

Either way, changing their near-perfect offense or Durant changing his style will not be a positive step. It will disrupt the harmony.

4. Something's gotta give, and someone is going to be getting less shots. How will one of their all-star players handle a reduced role? Not just from a mental point, but how effective will they be in a reduced role? Look at how Kevin Love looks in a reduced role... very poor. Some players do not play well when they do not have the ball in their hands in the spots they want.

Of course there are more issues that come along with making such a drastic change to the team, but these are the first few I thought of off the top of my head.

There are some positives such as being able to keep at least two all-stars on the court at the same time, but overall, I think bringing in Durant is a net-negative for their team. Or at best, a wash.

Their bench had been a major advantage in the past. It's gone now. They'll still be a great team and compete for the title and like you I don't think they're better than last year.

I'm not even talking about how many games they've won.

I'm talking about how good their team is regardless of their record on paper.

I think they've taken a step back.

Right... they're still going to be really good.

But I don't think they've improved.

I agree for sure they won't be better. However,

This is irrelevant. KD can fit into any offense, especially GS's offense

I'd rather stagger the minutes of Curry, Thompson, Durant, and nut puncher, then count on Barbosa and Ezeli to carry my team. Win 60 games, keep everyone's minutes down, killcrush in the playoffs with those horses.

Pachulia isn't terrible, and i'm sure they'll find some more vets to come in for cheap.

But i agree, when you look at the contenders in the West, they will have a very significant size advantage at the 4 and 5.
Spurs with Pau/Aldridge
Clippers (if healthy) with Griffen/Jordan
Grizz with (if healthy) with Gasol/ZBo

The Spurs to me are still a very good team, that just got better without really losing anything.
If Tony Parker is healthy and plays good, they are just as good as the Warriors.

for the warriors to put themselves in a position to maintain is believe it or not "improving" their future.

Curry was hurt in the playoffs. His shot was way off.

Sure, KD CAN fit into GS's offense... but turning him into a shooter running off screens takes away the things that makes him Kevin Durant.

I think the Warriors are forgetting what made them so great. They had a team full of shooters with length who could all move the ball.

When the Heat won, it looked like more work. I expect the same with this team. They are going to have to work for wins.

An elite bench is so valuable in this league. And adding a shooter to a team full of shooters isn't worth the hit in my opinion.

Ezeli is gone. So is Bogut and Barnes. Probably Barbosa too.

There won't be a problem getting KD his shots IMO, look at it this way. Last year, KD took 19 shots while hitting 50/39/90

Curry is going to cede shots, but honestly I don't even want him to if I was GSW. He shot an efficient 50/45/90 while taking 11 of his 20 shots from 3pt range.

This is how their team's top 10 looked for FGA:
Curry 20
Thompson 17
Green 10
Barnes 10
Speights 6
Iggy 6
Ezeli 5
Barbosa 5
Livingston 5
Bogut 4

With that being said: Barnes' 10 goes straight to KD. Bogut's 4 will most likely go to Zaza. The others whether they come back or not and/or they're gone: Speights, Barbosa, Livingston, and Ezeli combine for 21 shots. Easily can cede 10 of those 21 shots to KD. while the new bench takes the other 11.

Not that hard, heck Curry/Thompson may give 1-2 shots towards KD as well. Their "deep" bench might be gone, but they could still form a formidable 8 guys while giving everyone adequate shots.

OKC's entire offense was getting the ball to Durant or Westbrook and they took turns using their ability as 1 on 1 players to make something happen.

Golden State does that to an extent with Curry. They'll go up the court and Draymond may set a drag screen and Curry will make some magic happen.

Sometimes you can have too many people looking to do something with the ball.

Hence the I'd rather stagger the minutes then keep those stiffs. Who cares about depth? Cleveland beat them in the finals playing fricking Richard Jefferson.

With regard to making Durant a spot up shooter, have you seen some of the Warriors' set plays? They might have the best movement stuff going towards the basket of anyone in the league. They get those looks because of the shooting threats they have at the guard position. This is like a dream for Durant.

Just because Durant plays more ISO in OKC doesnt mean that is all he can do. He does that because it is what he has to do. Does KD suck on Team USA?

Bench will suffer but will not be able to convince me that adding the 3rd best player in the league will make you worse.

Have 4 "superstars" can allow Warriors to stagger mins way more and allow guys to play a few mins here and there with non starters where they get the ball more. They already do that with Klay and Steph

I do not think they will win more games. They are going to have to adjust. It will be interesting to see how they do on the boards.

If Durant comes in and buys in like Iggy did. I think that can be awesome.

Either way it wont matter when the Pels sweep them in the playoffs

Disagree, they will be able to have 2 of KD/Steph/Klay on the court all the time.
