The fade is the stupidest pass play in football.

It has to be precisely thrown and hardly ever works.

Why do dumbass, overpaid OCs keep calling it?

Probably because it also has a low percentage of being intercepted which fits their uber conservative football mindset.

Love the phrase "50/50" ball whenever the odds of a fade being successful is much much lower than that

Professional elite QBs doing it with elite WRs is one thing. When you have shitty college QBs throwing to future 7th founders on a low percentage route on important down it's just laughably bad

Also a close second to stupidity is the rollout play that EVERY TEAM IN THE COUNTRY AT EVERY LEVEL runs

From the 2.5 yard line these idiots think they are so creative by rollout out their QB and cutting an already small field in half.

I hattteee that play

It's the most infuriating play.

But it's my guy is better than your guy.

And like the other poster said, it's almost never ever ever intercepted...

But it's also usually incomplete.

It's the clear out old NBA play of football.

Very low turnover potential and it draws more PI calls than any other route.

The term 50/50 isn’t measuring the odds of the WR catching it, it basically means that the WR and DB both have an even shot of getting it, and the better player usually comes down with it. It’s why it’s usually thrown to elite WR.

It's a soft pass that is easy to knock down if you have a corner who isn't 5'5".

I never got the love affair with it unless you have Calvin Johnson in his prime.

But that's still stupid because there's a 80 percent chance that it simply falls incomplete

So your saying it's a 50 percent chance of catching it on 20 percent.

That's not as dumb bc I can see what they're trying to do. The rolled out QB usually is a threat with speed to score, and will have two receivers waiting should the spy on him committ to the run.

I think it's a decent play as long as you have the right match up (e.g. 6'4 WR vs. 5'11 CB).

Also, it's imperative that there is plenty of space and that the QB puts enough arm on it. I'd rather the ball go sailing 10 rows into the stands than him short arm it allowing the CB to make an interception.

You flowed the entire defense to a smaller area of the field. Even if you are wanting your fast QB to catch the corner, you've made that job much harder than any other play in the playbook
