It’s more ridiculous that they took Lattner over Barkley. Non NBA players should have never been on that team.

How did Laettner get on the team? That selection is curious when everyone else were established NBA stars.

Laettner had played on the college USA team a couple years before they decided to bring the pros to the olympics. He was also considered one of the best college players of all time. And the argument over shaq was that they didnt need another big man, but wanted a guy that could shoot and play the European game.

I just remember watching that team and being in complete awe of the amount of talent on the court. Everyone knew they were going to win gold. Everyone knew they would go undefeated through the tournament. But to see them do it was something that you couldn’t even imagine.
