It’s pretty clear that Ohio State is the cream of the crop in the Big 10 this year.
All that remains to be seen is if any of those teams are even a quality win.
You’re in the CFP regardless.
But Penn State secretly isn’t good.
1 score win vs Pitt
1 score win vs Iowa
1 score Win vs Michigan
Loss to Minnesota
They’re gonna be in for a fight against Indiana of all teams.

quote:what he said is fact. They could lose to Aurbun and would be an underdog to only at the most 3 teams, meaning you would be fine with them at the 4.
I disagree

IIRC, Alabama was still the 2nd or 3rd best team according to Vegas the year they went 9-3 in the regular season (2010).
The were a 3.5 point favorite over undefeated Auburn w/ Newton in the Iron Bowl, making them a half point favorite at a neutral site.

Neither are Auburn or Florida
Auburn 1 score win at home against Ole Miss, 1 score game against A&M
Florida 1 score win against Miami, 1 score win against Kentucky
Auburn is starting a true freshman QB and Florida is on their 2nd string (although he has been better than Franks).

Vegas isn't picking winners, they are setting a line they think the betting public will take 50-50 so they can make a living off the juice. Or, if they like one side for whatever reason, such as inside info, they may tilt it so the suckers will take one side. It's a business, and that business isn't ranking teams or picking winners.

I don't agree wiht this. It's to reward the best overall resumes, ie "most deserving".
The committee chair has said "best 4 teams" verbatim about 1 million times over the past 5 years.
Their criteria is subjective and nebulous, but despite the vagueness they have always been pretty consistent about wanting the "best" 4 teams. There's of course disagreement about what that means.

In the past the committee has clearly and repeatedly stated “best” is determined by who has the best resume, which to me is obviously the right way to do it.

Read this interview with former CFP Chair Jeff Long and see how many times he refers to “complete body of work”/“resume.” He answered 6 questions about his rankings and referred to “body of work”/“resume” 7 times.
This is just one example.

Here’s why your argument is retarded. You’re the kind of guy who would “vote” the 9-7 Chiefs to be the 2 seed in the AFC playoffs because “who would be favored in a game between the Chiefs and Texans?”

You’re all wrong. The most important factor is creating match ups that people want to watch with the teams that are reasonably available. Nobody wants to see Baylor or Minnesota in the playoffs. Your only hope of keeping Alabama out if they win out is Oregon.

But how do we KNOW Bama would be the 4th best over a Minnesota or Baylor. What wins does Bama have that prove that.
We all thought Miami was better than Ohio State in 2002. We thought Oklahoma was better than Boise in 2006. Many thought USC was better than Texas in 2005.
If we restrict ourselves to the eye test, then why bother playing the games at all?
Bama could lose 2 more and still be favored against Baylor at a neutral field.

That wasn’t a request. Delete your thread.

I don’t subscribe to the “4 best teams” bullshite because there are many 2 and 3-loss teams annually who are stellar, results on the field and in the big games have to matter bc they reflect an ability to thrive under pressure against big-time teams and why the college football regular season means more than other sport. When people use the “4 best teams” argument, they basically just spit on the importance of the regular season and merits of winning their conference, it’s completely antithetical to basic notions of competitive sports.

Too many people are slaves to the HUMAN-MADE computer metric that they pledge their allegiance to.
They are like "my metric says that Team A has a 52.1 percent chance to beat Team B." Therefore, you are an IDIOT if you think Team B is better than Team A.
Teams don't play 10 times on a neutral field. They play one game on one field with unpredictable circumstances. Stop acting like you're playing God. You can't predict real life.
