I was thinking Boston. We could make it a huge trade and send Teheran and Freedie their way if they're willing to pay most of their prospects.

Edit: auyushu basically laid out everything I'm thinking. The only thing I'd add is it appears the Sox GM is desperate to win now with the Padres trade, so he might be more willing to move prospects.

Isn't this the Braves way? We stock up on amazing pitching prospects, and then trade a few of them away for an expiring contract to make a playoff push. Then said player we traded for doesn't re-sign

Yeah, Boston could, but I don't see them giving up Devers or Moncada for Freddie really. Though of course those two would be A+ and very interesting to get in return

What do you think of us taking back Hanley Ramirez and some cash from them to offset the cost on our payroll? Think they'd be more willing to give up at least one of the two?

Well number one I don't want Hanley anywhere near our young team, he's poison much like Puig. I think the old clubhouse cancer thing is overrated for the most part, but in some cases it's justified.

But I don't think it would make a difference in the Red Sox's case, as they are a big market club. They can just eat the contract and keep the prospects, much like the Dodgers do, just to a lesser extent.

I guess the Sox could move one of the two players, as they only need one of them for 3B and have Bogaerts at SS with Pedroia at 2B for the forseeable future.

Taking back Hanley would be idiotic.

He wouldn't even necessarily play a game for us. We could just try to flip him to an AL team to use as a DH.

I don't think you understand how much of a hinderance his contract is. 22 mill a year for a player with negative value.

Sources tell Rosenthal that the Braves “are talking to a number of…non-compensation free agents, including some veteran relievers.” Ultimately, Rosenthal writes, it’s hard to tell what the Braves’ goal is in 2016. In the end, the gameplan might be to sell off Freeman and Teheran, land even more prospects, and land a top choice in the 2017 draft.

If he was flippable to an AL team in need of a DH the Red Sox would just do it themselves. As 31 said he's owed 22 mil a year and his contract goes through 2018 with a vesting option for 2019. And he had negative 1.8 WAR last year. He's probably the least tradeable contract in baseball right now.

One can only hope we settle on a path. Going back and forth will just lead to bad news. Not that we need to move Freddie or Julio to suck next year, we can get a top 5 pick with them just fine.

Guessing some players we may have interest in:
Kelly Johnson
Gordon Beckham
Juan Uribe
Alexi Ramirez
Dom Brown
David Aardsma
Jonathan Broxton
Ernesto Frieri
Jason Motte
Bobby Parnell
Joakim Soria
Jerry Blevins

This is all purely spec on my part.

They have all kinds of money, but like you said, that contract is a huge hinderance. I don't know that they're going to be willing to give up Moncada period. Maybe trading them Miller and Freeman is worth Devers plus all the extras. I don't know that Teheran gets us either though.

Braves CEO Terry McGurick talks Payroll

ABC: Can we expect to see a top 10 payroll team?

TM: I think that’s where we want to be. I think we would expect ourselves to be. The proof is in the pudding. We have to have all of this coalesce and work. Our confidence level is so high that it’s as close to being in our plans as we can get it right now as far as our operating plan and how everything we are doing.

ABC: When can we expect to see the Braves in the top 10 In terms of payroll?

TM: I won’t give you a timetable, but you will start seeing major jumps 1/1/17.

#Braves signed C/1B Willians Astudillo to minors deal. Won FSL batting title (.314) in #Phillies system in 2015

Then there’s Willians Astudillo, who spent his first six seasons with Phillies. He’s not a well-known commodity, but he’s the owner of the most intriguing and limited skill set in baseball.

With Astudillo, the old cliché is almost literally true: All Astudillo does is hit. He doesn’t hit for power, he doesn’t run, he doesn’t field well, he throws a bit below-average, he doesn’t walk and he doesn’t strike out. All he does is hit.

There has also been a lot of chatter lately about an Orioles/Markakis reunion. I know the Orioles need an outfielder and the deal never made sense. I'd send him over in a hurry if it was me.

I agree to a certain extent. One thing Markakis does is bring a strong veteran presence to the clubhouse and set a great example for the young players.

All that being said, if they'll take his whole contract and give us back a decent prospect in return let's do it.

Do the Orioles still have Jair Jurrjens? If so, let's get him back in a deal for Markakis

If they give you a bag of peanuts, you do it. We are trying to shed money, esp dead money ie NM
