You can also ask many fans on this thread if they’re going to be ok if the MLB cracks down on the Astros.

Why don’t you add something of substance here?

I mean if the Astros were truly cheating at home then you would think it would show in the stats right?

Maybe it did. Maybe the Astros numbers would be even worse. Furthermore, to get a true read on the numbers, you should go back and evaluate the Astros home schedule and which pitchers they faced at home and on the road. Factor in the park rating and righty/lefty splits.

quote:

I mean if they’re cheating at home and know what pitch is coming, you’d think they’d have an unbelievable batting average, slugging percentage, hits, homeruns

They weren’t dumb enough to do this on every pitch. If they did, then they are in deep shite. They could have relayed signals on one or two at bats a game.

Do you think pitchers scuff up every baseball they get? Did they throw spitballs 80% of the time? No. Same case here.

You could tip 10 pitches a game. Of the 10, some will be out of the strike zone, some will be hit in play, out of play, whiffed on, etc. All it does is increase your odds at success. Unfortunately, that’s still frowned upon and viewed as cheating.

quote:

August of 2017 was the Astros worst month all season long, record wise, and hitting wise, and this is the month where the “most cheating” appears to be found in

How was the pitching that month? What contributed to the losses other than batting?

Baseball is full of variables, maybe more than any other sport. To base your answer solely on wins and losses is as bad as determining your Cy Young winner solely on his record.

Oh I get it, you haven’t read the thread. Your contributions are childish insults and “Go Astros”. I thought your fanbase was more knowledgeable than that.

Other Astros fans in here can carry an educated conversation and debate. You, not so much.

Most overused and misunderstood word on this site. It’s amazing someone doesn’t agree they melt. Ignorant.

Cuck may be a close second.

It's just that you are coming across like you have some personal investment in this. Overzealous it's called.

I’m not basing my answers solely on wins and losses. I never said that. I’m giving many variables whenever it comes to how the Astros did hitting wise during that season at home and on the road, and the same with the month of August and I compared that month to the other 6 months in the regular season.

Also, this isn’t the only variable I have in determining whether I think the Astros are guilty right now or not. So far, there isn’t enough evidence to punish the Astros and to definitively say that they stole signs electronically. There is still zero proof that the Astros used electronics to steal signs

Show me the proof then. Show me the proof that the Astros used a camera, sent footage to a monitor, and that the Astros were relaying what pitch was coming to their players based off of what they stole electronically.

If there is evidence that comes out to support these allegations then I’ll believe it, and I’ll
be extremely pissed off at the Astros for doing something like that, but y’all are acting like it’s already been proven that the Astros definitely stole signs electronically

Well, this proof isn’t in anybody’s hands except the people investigating. The twitter universe doesn’t have any footage that isn’t public access.

So...the result of the investigation will conclude the debate about proof.

For me personally, there’s too much smoke for there to be no fire. That’s just my opinion obviously, but some people in this thread think a differing opinion = a melt

that proof will come from an investigation - do you have a plausible explanation for the trash can banging sound only happening on off speed pitches?

Exactly. The proof will come from the investigation. And the banging on the trash cans could be a sign of electronically stealing signs or it could be that they stole signs legally and that was their way of relaying what pitch was coming to the batter. We have no idea. It’s just ridiculous to automatically say the Astros were definitely stealing signs electronically because none of us have any proof that that’s what happened. The MLB is the only ones who I’m going to believe and trust. Innocent until proven guilty

Not looking good for the Astros. At all

quote:

As the owners' meetings begin, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred addressed the sign-stealing scandal. A few highlights. As to whether other teams are involved as well, he said: "I have no reason to believe it extends beyond the Astros at this point in time.”
quote:

Manfred on potential discipline: "The general warning I issued to the clubs I stand by. It certainly could be all of those things, but my authority under the major league constitution would be broader than those things as well.”

Translation: He has the authority to hammer teams.
quote:

Manfred on the gravity of the allegations against the Astros: “Any allegations that relate to a rule violation that could affect the outcome of a game or games is the most serious matter. ... We have ... what is going to be a really, really thorough investigation ongoing."

An organization using cameras and a system of relaying information to know almost every pitch thrown to them in a playoff series is about as egregious an act as I can think of.

The batter/pitcher battle and how it changes as games play out is pretty much the essence of the game.
