Scheffler, DJ, and Xander are also elite players, two of which are major champs, one of which is #1 in the world

They shot even, +2, +2

It clearly was hard golf for the guys late in the day. Not everything is some puzzle you need to try and figure out. Because of social media and 24 hour media sports is so over analyzed these days

Standing over a short putt on the 8th, and the wild wedge on the 14th, some of the easiest scoring holes he couldn't finish again. And this is the Rory that has been the best from tee to green but still couldn't make a birdie after the first hole.

This is why Rory is going to keep hearing questions about why he can't close on Sundays at a major. Cause he can't close on Sundays at a major.

And people have the stupidity to question Tiger's greatness on closing day.

Why don't we ask Phil Mickelson if Rory can close on a major on a Sunday? Why don't we do it next year when the PGA Championship is in Valhalla?

Wyndham Clark won 1 golf tournament in bjs entire career, and he won a major today

The “can be win a major” line is media driven headlines and people eat it up. Before Thursday, not a shot in hell would anyone on this board have said Clark was a guy “that has whar it takes to win a major”

It would have been “lol you are picking a guy win one win ever and zero top 70s ever in a major”

That’s right, Clark was never even top 70 in a major before today

Jack Nicklaus-19 runners up in majors.
Phil Mickelson-12 runners up in majors.
Arnold Palmer-10 runners up in majors

If you asked some people that post in the golf threads here they would consider all of the above to be chokers because they didn't win majors every time they were in contention.

Just got back from the course ... and man, it is not spectator friendly. But the tournament was really well run and concession lines were quick and the food / drink reasonable.

Louis Oostheizen won one PGA tournament his entire career and it was a major. No one considers him to be a nobody on the tour.

Phil just closed a major at 50 years of age. I think we all know that it has been close to a decade since Rory closed a major.

You just heard from Brooks Koepka at the Masters that he choked coming in and that he wouldn't let it happen again. And the next major, he wins the PGA and had the mental toughness not to repeat the same mindset.

Rory acts like he still doesn't get it.

And Mickelson went 8 years without closing a major before he won at Kiawah. I don't remember "Mickelson can't close on majors" being a hot take unless you are talking between the years 1999 and 2004.

Do you honestly think Clark was some mental giant today? He just outlasted everyone playing par. He confessed he lost focus after he got up by 3 and that could have been all it took for a seasoned veteran to pounce. Nobody came to get him. Certainly not Rory who was struggling to find the greens.

Do you remember Phil being ostracised and criticized for years until he won his first major? I do.

Who in hell would criticize a guy at the back end of his 40s for not winning a major in so many years? 50 years of age as a major winner is a record by a long shot.

And every single one of those people that said “he would never win a major” were complete idiots right?

That’s our entire point. Sweeping statements like that usually end up looking foolish

Rory and Scheffler are the same player now. Crushing tee to green. Putts dont fall

Scheffler has to hole out from fairway to score

Scottie is losing strokes to the field putting, but is first in approach and around the green

Rory is still gaining strokes gained putting, but he is a full stroke gained behind Scottie on around the green and approach

Scottie is missing 6-12 footers, Rory is making most of those, but he isn’t gaining nearly enough on the field In his approach considering he has wedge in hand more than anyone.
