Texas Ranger fans are melting about requirements to buy tickets to GLP’s final home series
Posted by McCaigBro69 on 4/19/19 at 11:55 am811
Lots of melting about this on Twitter.
Personally, I have no problem with it. Yankee games at the Globe are always overrun with Yankee fans and this will help bar that to close out the new park.
I went to the game Monday against LAA and the place was empty. It was 65 degrees and the perhaps the best player in the history of the sport was playing and people wouldn’t come out and watch.
I want real Ranger fans to be there to close out the park, and imo, to claim that title a person should actually attend a couple of games a year if it’s possible logistically. You don’t have to have season tickets to call yourself a fan, but the last thing I want there is a bunch of Instagram nerds filling out those seats who are only there for the pic and can’t name half of the roster.
Right now there are still very reasonable priced tickets on stubhub. I expect them all to either be bought up or taken down and placed back with high prices since nobody other than season ticket holders and multi-game package holders have these tickets.
I have tickets to the first and final game. Will be a fun, yet sad time.

A few reactions.

Ranger fan support is pretty poor in general. Josh Hamilton was right when he said it wasn't a baseball town.

Would attendance be better if the park was in Dallas instead of Arlington? I say yes.

DFW is a city that likes a winner.
Nobody other than the Cowboys has a steady, diehard fan base.
GLP was packed for every game almost when we were winning.

#2 in MLB in attendance in 2011 and 2012.

This policy makes sense because the final series is the Yankees (way to go, MLB).
I think the true Rangers fans are not upset about buying tickets to 3 whole baseball games just to be able to go to the final game in that park. Why? True local fans of the team will go to at least 3 more games between now and the end of the season anyway.

My last trip to GLP will be in July. I don't live in DFW.

It’s a ridiculous imposition not just on bandwagon Yankee fans. What about people who have business trips/conventions set around those dates? Or families from out of town who are planning a mini-vacation that weekend.
I realize the series is in late September and not July but the point still stands.

So this policy has no effect on you.

They can buy tickets on stubhub.

Should have built the new Park in Frisco.
not sure why anybody disagrees
I live in Ft Worth so neither Arlington or Frisco is preferable and I don't go that often anyway.
The center of mass of the population is north of Dallas somewhere. shite they could pry away some of Baxter Brinkmann's ranch in Frisco and have a whole complex.
well probably not until he dies since he is a hoarder
I dunno, there is probably some parcel somewhere south of 121 that would have been perfect

It was a Monday game and summer hasn't started yet. Non summer weekday games pretty much never have good attendance. This goes across most of MLB. If your ballpark isn't inside a main downtown area with east access to light rail travel you aren't going to pack the place for your average early season M-Th games.

I don’t go to Angels games in Houston. Trout comes in about once a month. The novelty has worn off.

Lol at people acting like globe life is Fenway or Wrigley. It's 20 years old and nothing really special.
And these people can still see the xfl next year in it.

Not a huge baseball fan, but I've been to GLP a few times, most recently about 10 years ago. It is only around 25 years old, which is not old at all for a sports venue. Why are they building a new one?
