it would be stupid. You'd play Georgia at home once every 16 years or so.

Would have to go to 9 conference games and drop the permanent cross-division crap because you eliminate the need for Bama/TN and UGA/Barn being cross division. You could cycle through the cross division opponents every 8 years under the home and home format.

We hardly ever play UGA or Tennessee as it is. Once every 6 years or something?

So playing them even less often is the solution?

Or delete the permanent rival and have years where you dont even play one team from the big 6. That's just bad.

Gimme that 4, 4-team pod structure immediately

OU, Texas, Arkansas, Mizzou

A&M, LSU, Ole Miss, Miss. State

Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, Vandy

Florida, Georgia, SC, Kentucky

Imagine a schedule where LSU's east teams are Kentucky and South Carolina (or Vandy) or whomever. You don't play bama, auburn, georgia, florida, or Tennessee that year.

Sure it may be advantageous from a w/l standpoint, but that is not even an SEC schedule anymore. That would just be awful. This has zero benefit to LSU. They should be right there with A&M shooting this down.

You're thinking about this in the wrong lense. College football is going to 12 team playoff it's only a matter of when at this point.

You would still have to play in sec championship in your scenario and then against maybe 4 other sec teams in the playoff (Bama, Georgia, auburn etc)

If they added a conference game and ditched the permanent opponent we'd play them MORE often. If they add two more conference games it would be a lot more often.

That means 7 games against the other West team, 1 permanent opponent, and 1 rotating game.

So you are rotating 7 teams, so you play Georgia at home once every 14 years. Its too many teams, jesus they will chase every last dollar no matter the cost.

Or they can get rid of the permanent cross-over game, play seven and and two. You would play each opponent home and away every eight years.

There was an old article on the interwebs that dove into what Jack Ruby was saying earlier ITT about pods. Basically lowering the number of "permanent" teams in your division ups the rotating schedule and ensures a more even schedule over the long term.

Banner Society

Example with the current 14-team schedule:

SEC has been down the road many times before. If 2 divisions remain, politics would mean Bama, Auburn, Tennessee and Georgia would all be in the same division for that to happen.

That would essentially make the SEC West the pseudo Big 8 and the SEC East the OG SEC. LSU should in no way support this.

Exactly how I feel. It would crush almost all of our rivalries except for ole miss. I hate it.

Yeah thats obviously not guaranteed but still a poor point.

That doesn't replace on campus games even remotely.

Of you don't have split into quadrants, then you basically have 2 diff leagues masquerading as one conf.

You'd need quadrants to balance out the equation of west vs east. But let's face it, by adding these teams, you'd basically have half the old SWC and Big 8 vs traditional SEC teams.

Arkansas
Missouri
Oklahoma
Texas

Texas A&M
LSU
Mississippi State
Ole Miss

Alabama
Auburn
Tennessee
Vandy

Gerogia
Florida
South Carolina
Kentucky

Then just rotate quadrants every year and maybe have a permemnet crossover every other year to satisfy some rivalries like Texas vs A&M. That way, you still get 8 conf games and it makes everyone happy.

It also doenst screw over some teams.

You could also add 2 more teams if you had to have Okie State. Take NC State in the east and call it a day.

I like.

Nine conference games:

Round-robin in your pod (3)
Two games (one home, one away) against each POD (6).

You will play each team home and away on a four-year rotation. That would suck for Vandy and Mizzou though.

If the B1G itself doesn’t go after Texas and OU, there’s absolutely zero chance they will go after Big 12 leftovers. In the case of Texas and OU joining the SEC, the B1G would likely go after a combo like Notre Dame and UVA or UNC and Duke. The B1G loves them some AAC accredited member schools.
