If runner doesn't lower his head that is a shoulder to the waist/chest tackle.

Are you blind? That's a textbook form tackle. Aimed at the waist, head to the side. If the offensive player doesn't duck his head there's no contact whatsoever with the helmet.

Piss off. I addressed the poor screenshot.

I also have eyes and the crown of the defender's helmet made contact. And it wasn't a brushing contact like we see ALL the time.

I'm frantically arguing against the rule in general. I admitted my screenshot wasn't ideal.

I'll work to find a better angle on the call first addressed in the thread.

I have watched that play on my DVR in slomo multiple times.

Defender led with shoulder. Runner lowered his head into defenders head.

You really need to see the overhead shot which I have not seen online yet.

Need to change the rule, once the Offensive player lowers his head, targeting is null and void.

My dude.

"Leading with the head or shoulder" is asinine as all hell.

It the same thing unless you cock your neck 90 degrees tonthe left or right while your upper body is leading.

I perfectly understand a shoulder or crown hitting first while the defender isn't in 100% of either hitting first.

But you can't make contact with the crown man. That's the rule.

I apologize for the screenshot, again.

I haven't found a good video or gif of this play. I grabbed this off a page(that I'll link), with multiple shite videos of the play.

But keep in mind replay folks had ever angle with any speed they wanted.

The ball handler went down FAST. The defender VERY naturally went in for his tackle.

And this is how he hit him.

ETA: This is where I grabbed the screenshot.

They used forcible to head and neck I bet.

What was the call?

Knowing your argument none made which makes the UCLA call bad. That's my problem nobody ever calls it the same and the punishment is too harsh

I honestly don't know. I was at a house party and couldn't hear very well.

But I don't think it was forcible. And UF got called for a forcible contact call that I thought was INSANE in this same game.

These calls, when held against the written rules, should not be ok.

I just wished they would enforce it the same all crews

There's got to be happy medium. I applaud the intent but hate the enforcement. Maybe make them degrees like Running/Roughing the kicker. Let the booth determine if ejected

Say a QB is running slides dude lays out to hit him ejection and 15 the play everyone has a fit about 15 and sit a play

Did you see the Steelers guy hit Kizer the other day?

He got called for it.

But good lord it was OBVIOUS he was trying to murder Kizer. His intent was instantly noticeable.

Now intent is hard to judge. I get that. But for frick's sake we can get better than not judging intent AT ALL.

Your kicking(roughing/running into) example is perfect.

Give the refs some room to be human.

Because right now, it looks like they're forced, FORCED, to be dictators when it comes to the way they enforce these rules.

And there is just too much on the line at this level of sport.
