Awesome win for Fritz! Had a feeling he would get it done today.

Now do it in three out of five over two weeks.

I know right. We're in awe of Fritz for winning Indian Wells but imagine winning 21 majors

Beat Rafa in straights with 1 ace wow

I can see why Rafa is skipping Miami. I think he's a little tired and needs to recharge. He put maximum effort into today's match but it wasn't his highest level of tennis.

Yeah it seems crazy that he never won Miami, but he hasn’t played it since 2017, probably for the same reasons you mentioned. No reason to push anything with clay coming up.

I think Rafa was pretty hyped up for that match yesterday. That was not one he wanted to lose against his young countrymen that is drawing comparisons to him.
Throw in an unexpected match against Kyrgios and he’s certainly used up a lot of emotional and physical energy this past week. Spent a lot of time on the court.
Still thought he brought it pretty decently today, though, all things considered. Congrats to Fritz. This is pretty dang awesome for American tennis.

Didn't know Fritz had wins like this in him. Career defining victory.
Ive been saying for years that i think Fritz is the next great American hope in tennis (well, to the like 3 people i know who give a shite about tennis lol) in the mold of an Andy Roddick or similar .. Well it took him goddang long enough ! Seriously though, great win and he’s still young enough to do some damage for several years to come .

Rafa has a strain in his lower pec. He is lucky he did not pop it. The semi match was an all out/all in match for him. He played as hard as his body would allow and it did great. He can still call on the greatness when he really needs to. I know the match with Alcaraz meant a lot to him in many ways. He really likes the kid and it was a big moment in his career.

Stress fracture/cracked rib for the bull. Out for six weeks.

Yeah guess it was a stress fracture not the muscle.

I was gonna start a thread on it. I’m watching her video on it now. Just so crazy to see.
If it is a true retirement, she definitely went out on top.

I just read about Ash Barty. Kind of crazy, but actually not shocking. She previously took a hiatus from tennis.
Too bad though. She is probably the most consistent player on the WTA.

I think in general you’re going to start seeing a lot more of this across all sports with athletes retiring earlier. They’re starting at such a young age and devoting their lives to something and they hit a point where they’re just tired of the grind. I don’t blame her. Go out on top with $24MM in earnings.

Ash Barty is my favorite female player. I do not like many. She is legit a cool person. She has this great Australian laid back personality. She is also just an insane athlete. I bet she goes and does another sport like cricket or golf.

Well my Miami plans changed pretty quickly and I won’t be going, but I’ll still keep an eye on the tickets just for future reference and comparison’s sake.
Looks like the grounds passes range from $15 to $50 depending on how much tennis is being played on the outer courts, which is pretty smart imo.
