If TCU wasn't elite, the big boys would be able to prove it. They can't.

Was TCU elite in 2008 when Oklahoma beat them by 25?

What about in 2007 when Wyoming beat them? When Texas beat them by 3 touchdowns?

What about in 2005 when they were defeated by 5-6 Southern Methodist by double digits?

Elite!!!!

i never made an official list.. not sure what you are referring too.

ohio state is an elite program

miami isnt. neither is tennessee anymore

sounds about right

Utah has more BCS wins than TCU.
But you're right, TCU is definitely elite and they are not
Utah might have a case if they had done something after their BCS bowl appearance instead of following with 5 losses, 5 losses, 4 losses before appearing again in a BCS game.

TCU has put together back to back to back 11 win seasons with back to back BCS bowl games....and 5 of 6 seasons with 11 wins. Boise State is the only non-BCS team that's even come close to doing that.

you cannot be elite without winnng championships.

Where is their BCS championship? 2002. So if you include OSU, then you must include Tenn and Miami....according to your criteria.

They've done something that TCU has never done. Not only did they win two BCS games, but that second one was against a team whose only other loss was to the National Champions.

Utah is also 3-2 vs. TCU the last 5 seasons.

TCU has only one 2 conference championships in the last 5 years. The last time that Ohio State didn't at least share a conference championship was 2004.

They've been in 2 national title games in the last 5 years, been in a BCS bowl game every year since 2002 with the exception of 2004, and have 2 BCS Bowl wins in the last 2 years.

If you really want to compare the two programs, then you should probably just lock yourself in a closet for a few hours with a bag over your head because it'll be more productive than debating which program is better.

they do

ohio state has won a championship and has had sustained success since 2002, playing in 7 BCS games since that year(2 national title appearences mixed in) and top 10 recruiting classes.

you do need to win championships to be elite. but just because you win one, doesnt mean you are elite at the current moment if you cannot sustain that level.

i don't see what is so cloudy about that. pretty cut and dry

that is why miami and tenn are currently not elite programs. same with florida state

Elite-

"a relatively small dominant group within a larger society"

Then why's it so confusing to you when someone says this?

14 is comparing what TCU does in the MWC to what teams do in the SEC, Big 12, Pac-10, Big Ten, and ACC - all conferences that are very clearly significantly superior to the MWC.

What % defines small though? Each person has their different viewpoint. 1% (Lester Earl) and 10% both meet the definition imo.

I don't think TCU is a dominant program YET, but they are right on the cusp. Another BCS bowl win next year and they qualify to me.

confirmed what?

that there are 4 BCS champions in the last 5 years. That is all that proves.

maintaining elite status is a fluid thing. you don't lose that title by not winning a national championship one year.

auburn winning a national title doesn't erase the past efforts of other teams.

You people are grasping for straws here. It's ridiculous.

So do you have to have won a national title in the past three years to be elite in the past three years?

14 is crawfishing again. This thread did give me an idea for another one.

So 14, do you believe that TCU is the only non-BCS school that has an elite football program.

I take that as a no.

None of your arguments make a lick of sense. None at all.
