Look...please don't hold us responsible for the...unfortunate...Austin to Waco corridor. That's where we've attempted to confine our loonies, but they escape every now and then.

I know this is going to be a surprise, but it’s not. It was used in some minstrel shows like a hundred years ago. Those shows sometimes featured actors in blackface.

That’s the entire argument against the song.

Yep. It's not racist. It's basically guilt by association. A professor brought it up a few years ago and it caught on with a few student groups thanks to the school newspaper. Athletes included it in their list of (mostly reasonable) requests to address examples of racial bias over the summer and of course the song issue caused a political and unwinnable media shitstorm.

Any fan questioning Sark for that answer has truly got their head in the sand. The song isn't going anywhere and shouldn't. (I'm liberal btw)

re: Steve Sarkisian's Defense of 'The Eyes of Texas' Won't Sit Well With His Players
Just change the lyrics

The eyes of Texas are upon you,
I am a transgender queer,
The eyes of Texas are upon you,
Low taxes are racist here.

Can’t you here the lesbians shouting,
Rise up early in the morn,
Open up the prisons right now,
Abort all the white unborn!

These lyrics are probably centered on the moral compass of the people who want it changed.

The players that find the song racist only do so because they had to be told it’s racist

Sounds like when you recruit new players you need to find out what they think about the song, and don’t recruit the ones that think it’s racist. The ones that don’t think it’s racist now should be told if they change their mind later that the school’s position will NOT change, and publicly challenging the school on it could cost playing time, which could affect their scholarship.

He needs to rid the roster of anyone who disagrees. They need men to win football games, not soy boys

So sick of this nonsense. No one would have to worry about being “tone deaf” if people didn’t look to create racism out of anything that exists.

Absolutely correct. The whole racism is short in supply, high in demand argument gives us this shining example.

but it will sit well with the people that pay his salary. Surely they can find enough players that don't care about that song.

surely they can find 85 players willing to sing that song, get into UT that if they weren't athletes would have ZERO shot at getting in, be treated like kings in a town like austin... If he starts telling kids to walk, they will find able bodies replacements quickly and Sark will become a texas folk hero.
