That’s the entire argument against the song.
Yep. It's not racist. It's basically guilt by association. A professor brought it up a few years ago and it caught on with a few student groups thanks to the school newspaper. Athletes included it in their list of (mostly reasonable) requests to address examples of racial bias over the summer and of course the song issue caused a political and unwinnable media shitstorm.
Any fan questioning Sark for that answer has truly got their head in the sand. The song isn't going anywhere and shouldn't. (I'm liberal btw)

Sounds like when you recruit new players you need to find out what they think about the song, and don’t recruit the ones that think it’s racist. The ones that don’t think it’s racist now should be told if they change their mind later that the school’s position will NOT change, and publicly challenging the school on it could cost playing time, which could affect their scholarship.
