Steelers offensive lineman Alejandro Villanueva chose to cover the name of police shooting victim Antwon Rose Jr. on the back of his helmet during Pittsburgh's game against the Giants on Monday. Villanueva chose instead to write the name Alwyn Cashe, a veteran who died during the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2005.

As the NFL has allowed players to wear helmet decals honoring the victims of systemic racism, the Steelers decided as a team to honor Rose -- a Black teenager shot in the back by a white police officer in Pittsburgh in 2018 after he ran from a vehicle that was pulled over -- for the entirety of the season. The now-former East Pittsburgh officer was charged with murder, but a jury found him not guilty in March 2019.

Villanueva, a former Army Ranger who served three tours in Afghanistan, decided to break from the team and replace Rose's name with Cashe's, a Sgt. 1st Class who died after trying to rescue soldiers from a burning vehicle in Iraq. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Tuesday that he approved of his player's decision.

The dude is a West Point grad and served 3 tours. It won't go well for anyone that calls him out for honoring a fallen soldier

So what’s the real story on this good boy Antwone Rose? Why wasn’t the officer convicted?

Great gesture by a great guy.

Only bad thing here is he'll probably be cancelled anyway.

Steelers should cut him. He is selfish, not a team guy.

I'd love for one of his teammates to try. He's a 6'9 320 lb Ranger who deployed 3 times.

A year ago when the whole team decided to boycott the anthem, he was the only one who came out on the field. A true American.

Sort of. He did come out but stayed in the tunnel because he didn't want to appear as if he was trying to show up the team. Of course, the cameras panned to him and then he later apologized because he said he was trying to not be seen. The plan was and he thought he would be standing with the captains (so as not to draw attention to himself) who were also in the tunnel but found himself out in front of them, appearing alone.

Appears to be an awesome guy. Glad we had guys like him serving our country and leading our troops.
