I haven’t been paying super close attention but Stanford was the class of the PAC12 for a while. What happened?

Funny you mention that. When I saw the record earlier tonight, I was thinking D Shaw probably should have jumped at some point. Same for Dantonio, obviously.

Down year I guess. They still are relevant every 3 or 4 years.

Their recruiting dipped a little and they can't find a QB.

Their defense isn't what it used to be for whatever reason

They were good for like 6 year after Harbaugh left

1. We’ve had a lot of injuries this year. Starting 3 true freshmen on the oline. 3 different starting QBs this year.
2. Lack of development in the running game. We’ve slowly shifted to a pass heavy offense and lost our identity of power run game. It was okay last year with JJ Arcega-Whiteside but this year the guys who have stepped into his place haven’t lived up to expectations. I expected this to be one of the most talented WR cores in years and that was an awful prediction.
3. Running game surprisingly has been better than expected but lacking the spark of Bryce Love, CMac, and the top RBs we had early 2010s
4. Defense has lacked LBs and linemen who have been pretty dominate. Solomon Thomas, Blake Martinez, Shayne Slov, and a number of others. We have 2 players on defense who will sniff the NFL and that is it. Paulson Adebo who will be a day 2 draft pick and Casey Toohill who will be day 3.
4. Overall, I want to see a new strength and conditioning coach and a new offensive coordinator. Lots of internal hires and keeping less competent people on staff which I think is holding us back. The talent is there but we’re not fielding a team that shows that talent.
Shaw will easily get next year and probably the following year to turn it around. Next year is challenging with road games at Oregon, UW and Notre Dame so we’ll see. Davis Mills has proven he can be the QB. Austin Jones and Nathaniel Peat will be good RBs. Young Oline will be more experienced. There is talent at WR. Defense will need lots of work next year but if we can’t make a bowl game next year it’ll be time to re-evaluate where we are going.

Tbh I'm surprised they were able to sustain their success post-Harbaugh for as long as they did. They were one of the worst BCS conference teams year in and year out for a while there. I thought they'd regress after Harbaugh's players left, but Shaw has done a good job keeping it running. Having a down year, it happens.

Their 2010 staff was sick.
Jim Harbaugh
David Shaw
Vic Fangio
Greg Roman
Randy Hart
Tim Drevno
Derek Mason
Lance Anderson
Pep Hamilton
Brian Polian
Then throw in Shannon Turley as S&C coach.

They were decent in the 80s and 90s. They just turned to shite after Willingham left and they hired Walt Harris and Buddy Teevens.
