Spin on Dak’s injury/ contract
Were the cowboys going to franchise Dak for 2021 before this weekend? If he can be back to throwing and running by next summer, is it not conceivable that this would make the cowboys question re-signing him and thus allowing Dak to hit the open market and sign for more? No idea what his value would be, but if he can look good there’s always some desperate teams out there.

re: Spin on Dak’s injury/ contract
I’ve been trying to tell my friends about this situation.

Rumor was that cowboys offered 38 mil. Another rumor said it was between 30-35. Either way, he’s not worth 30 mil on the open market in my opinion.

This injury will cost him MILLIONS and I don’t think he’ll be back. Here’s why:

Andy Dalton does really well and leads them to the playoffs. They can keep Dalton for 10-15 mil.

Andy Dalton sucks and the cowboys tank to ~4-12. Now, they draft a young QB in a deep QB draft and save millions.

I just don’t think Dak is significantly better than either of those options & his expected pay would require him to be significantly better.

He should have signed....

Dak is not better than Andy, injury not withstanding.

re: Spin on Dak’s injury/ contract
You obviously didn’t read it well.

Andy, leading cowboys to playoffs, at 10 mil is more value than Dak at 35 mil.

Andy, sucking, gets cowboys a new young (cheap) QB.

ETA: what I’m trying to say: it’s not about who’s better. It’s about value IMO.

All good points, and if the cowboys wanna get back to their winning ways they will most likely realize they can't afford to pay a QB $40 million after their abortion of a defense so far this season

They can sign Matt Ryan after the falcons go 0-16 and take Lawrence

Well that’s just silly.

There is no question that Dak is the better QB. The only question (and premise of this thread) is how much better?

Tens of millions better? Maybe not and that’s a question that the Cowboys have to answer now in light of Dak’s injury.

re: Spin on Dak’s injury/ contract
Well from other threads, the argument is that due to franchise tags we rarely get a ‘free market’ contract. But I’d agree after Jameis and Dalton among possibly others that were top 25 starters or so were unable to sign long term starting QB contracts.

But Dal was off to a good year. If he can get back to being close to 100%, I don’t think it’s a high probability but I do think it’s possible he could sign a long term big deal with someone other than the cowboys.

None of this matters. Dem Boys are doomed until the real problem goes on to his great reward:

The Cowboys should offer a 4 year $80 million dollar contract and use the money they saved to go get some corners.

worth it or not, he'd get more than 30 million on the open market. That's just a fact.

When Jones sees Andy Dalton struggle leading the Dallas offense, he backs the Brinks Truck up to Dak next summer after he's fully recovered.

Dak was too greedy got some bad advice . Should’ve taken the 30+ million offer. Got hung up on the 40+ . Was never and will never be worth that.

It takes one team

In 2018, Kirk received 28 million avg per. You do the math.

Entirely conceivable. Titans should ship Tannehill and sign Dak.
