Why is this not intentional grounding? It is not “in the vacinity” of an eligible receiver nor is it past the line of scrimmage. The line of scrimmage is not adjusted to the play.

Are there special surcumstances within 2 minuets?

It seems to me an unfair advantage to the offense.

It's an exception to the rule.

Because you are sacrificing a down in-exchange for stopping the clock

What he said.

ETA -
quote:

Item 3: Stopping Clock A player under center is permitted to stop the game clock legally to save time if, immediately upon receiving the snap, he begins a continuous throwing motion and throws the ball directly into the ground.

If you take a step or two back and then spike it, it's intentional grounding with a 10 second runoff. It's ended games before.

I believe it’s an exception to the rule and doesn’t make logical sense based on the established rules.

So because you don’t try you are not penalized the yardage?

How is this different than a QB in the grasp chucking the ball away (and failing to cross the LOS) to avoid a sack?

If it is intentional grounding, what would they lose a yard? Isn’t it spot if the foul?

Oh it’s spot foul if it’s more than ten yards

I guess I can wrap my head around it not making any logical sense.

It seems counterintuitive to the rules between the 2:00 warnings of each half.

Why is 10 yards a first down?

I think relevance escapes your grasp

Only relevant in college ball.

Your bridge misses you.

Um the difference is that he's not trying to avoid the loss of yardage that comes with an imminent sack. I don't understand what's so confusing about this being allowed.

Watched an Ohio high school playoff game end on a fake field goal attempt because the holder didn't lift his knee before tossing the ball. They would of scored too

Same reason why kneeling the ball in the pros lets you forfeit the down without being touched
