Why the hell do they take turns skating around the ice hoisting the cup above their heads? Makes zero sense.

to give the top players on the team the opportunity to have that moment... you only experience it once

It's tradition... but really I mean it's a way to celebrate each individual in accomplishing a team goal from the conn smythe trophy winner to the 3rd line center. Don't understand what's wrong with that.

Why does every NCAA winner take turns cutting down a piece of the net?

It makes sense. I bet if we give you a few minutes to think about it you will get it. Take your time.

Because you'd look a bit foolish just skating around aimlessly yelling "frick yea!" Holding the cup justifies the longstanding "frick yea" tradition

The number of 'frick yeas' is inversely proportional to the number of remaining healthy teeth.

in every sport they give the trophy to every player to hold as well.

Hockey just happens to be on ice so they skate around

Well it would look awfully silly for them to hoist it above their heads on a patch of grass outside or something.

And why do they shake hands with their opponent at the end? Buncha pussies, amirite?!

I bet the fact each player gets the cup for a day to with as he pleases really confuses you.

After the Stars won the Cup in 1999, there was a huge pool party at Craig Ludwig's house. Well, apparently, Guy Carbonneau decided that tossing the Stanley Cup off of the deck of the house and into the pool would be a fun time for all involved. Due to some bad luck, the Cup didn't reach the pool. Instead, it hit the lip of the pool and suffered serious damage. No league source has confirmed this incident, but how else does a dent like that get there?

I don't get the drinking champagne out of the cup, because you know some bastard in the past has taken a piss in the cup, either voluntarily or in a drunken stupor, and is having quite the laugh of his knowing misdeed watching others having a celebratory drink.

There's no way they would all be able to skate around with it at the same time.
