I watched the US England game yesterday and now watching this France Denmark game. How can this be the world's most popular sport? 700 million people watch Man U vs Liverpool every year. I just dont get it

Yes, it is pretty boring. However watching my kids play youth soccer is fun.

Most other countries don’t have the diversity that we have. Soccer is the #4 (maybe 5 behind hockey) sport in the U.S.

It’s more interesting if you’re aware of everything that’s going on (not just immediately around the ball).

I worked with a guy from Ecuador who explained some of this. Still don’t completely understand it but it’s slightly more interesting.

You might want to google that one. It says otherwise

Same thing with football and basketball, but at least a commoner can tune in and see something entertaining and exciting

I don’t think it’s boring. I just only have the energy for so many sports.

I do like World Cup soccer though

Coming to say this

U8-U10 rec league soccer is pretty damn exciting. I’ve coached my son’s team the past few years, and it’s a way different experience than legit soccer. Smaller fields and less players gives you way more action. Most games had around 8-10 goals total.

They also can’t pass and crash into each other a lot. Refs don’t give a shite, so there’s very stoppage for “flops.”

Certainly more fun to watch. A lot of the same strategies as soccer, just faster with more scoring

Like all sports it greatly helps your level of enjoyment to have grown up watching/playing, to have been to live games, and to be around folks who are into enough that they can explain it to you and show you team that are fun to watch.

Most people aren't going to suddenly like football, soccer, baseball, basketball, hockey or any other sport if they have never had any of those things.

For example, cricket is super popular in certain parts of the world. However, I didn't grow up watching so I don't know the rules, there are no live matches anywhere near me to check out, and I don't know anyone who watches that would help teach me about the game, teams, and players so my odds of ever getting into it are extremely low.

I don't trust any sport that can't figure out how to keep time so that the fans understand how much time is remaining. Every other sport has figured this out. Except soccer.

It seems to me that they don’t even try to score.

How many circle jerks is this board going to have crying about soccer for the next few weeks?

We get it. Some of you think soccer is boring. So just ignore it and go back to the excitement of the NBA regular season or the NFC South or The Bachelorette.

I’m sure a commoner is riveted when they tune in to a 4 hour football broadcast and get to see 30 minutes of the sport actually being played.

The second half of that France-Denmark game was really good. Also had pretty much no flopping or embellishment

I’m not some sort of zealous soccer apologist, but come on, man.

There’s nothing anyone can say to trash soccer that hasn’t already been said a million times. The sport is here in America. It’s been here for many decades. It’s not new. It will not change.

Everything ever said about it being boring… is true. And also boring.

And other posters have it right. When it comes to soccer, it gets less entertaining the more elite it gets. That is also true.

I still don’t hate it though.

Pick a Premier League team and follow them and watch the games. I guarantee you’ll see it differently when you have a dog in the fight.

Even as someone who grew up watching American sports, I sometimes find it boring to watch football, basketball, or baseball when my team isn’t playing and the game has no implications for my team.
