CLEVELAND -- Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue is digging in his heels on his approach to coaching his team despite trailing the Golden State Warriors 0-2 heading into Wednesday's Game 3.

Lue announced Tuesday that he will keep J.R. Smith as his starting shooting guard, even though Smith combined for just three points on 1-for-6 shooting, two rebounds and zero assists, steals and blocks in Games 1 and 2

Lue also remained steadfast in the Cavs playing with a frenetic pace, even though the Warriors have outscored them 245-204 in the series so far. The Cavs were average, at best, in terms of pace during the regular season, ranking 16th in the league.

quote:

"I think taking good shots when we're playing with pace and not turning the basketball over, letting them get out in transition," Lue said. "So, that's our game. We're not going to change our game because of who we're playing. And I'm confident that we can play that way, and we did it last year. A lot of people said we couldn't. But that's our game. That's who we are. And we're not going to change just pause we're playing Golden State."

The Cavs are playing at a quicker pace than LeBron James has ever played before. James has played with an average pace of 90.6 possessions per game in his 14-year career, according to ESPN Stats & Information. In the Finals, the Cavs are averaging 105.5 possessions per game so far.

GM Lebron asked for this....

His comments about how Stevens was confusing him were pretty shocking.

You do have to concede that the move paid off last year, although I think that success was more about the team just having a better attitude than under Blatt.

Lebron has his fingerprints all over the game plan. And he's a basketball genius so we gotta believe that's their best chance to win. Righ?

Well this one is his fault. He wanted Lue.

JR is a streaky off-the-bench guy. He's dynamic if he's hot but a real liability if cold. He shouldn't be starting anywhere much less in the NBA finals.

Sounds like Dan Quinn's approach to a 25 point lead in the Super Bowl.

Lebron goes all out tonight in the 1st half, puts up great numbers.

Lebron is gassed by early 3rd quarter. The wheels fall off around that point.

GS takes over late 3rd/early 4th.

MSB says LeBron quit

Here...we...go....

Call me crazy but i wouldn't have benched Thompson and wouldn't going forward.

He's playing like shite, that is obvious. But I don't think CLE can win playing Jefferson as much as he has and the other guys who are filling in for Thompson. They can only win if Thompson plays well, and there's zero chance of that if he's on the bench. Not that there's a great chance if he's on the court, but it's their only chance IMO, short of LeBron/Kyrie both going off at the same time...but that's also unlikely to happen 4 out of 5 games.

That's a stupid thing to say. Of course you don't always change your play based on who you're playing, but sometimes you should when your opponent plays your style better than you do it.

Guy has unwarranted hubris. He thinks he knows what he's doing because things lined up just right for him last year.

He's an idiot if he keeps the pace. Get those second chance points, crash the boards, protect the rim.

I don't mind keeping JR at guard but the faster the pace, the worst his decision-making gets.

Bench Korver.

Bench Shumpert.

Lebron was gassed before half on sunday night.

by the middle of the 3rd he was just standing around being super passive.

bc he was a bad GM his first stint in Cleveland and is doing a bad job again.

Not like building a super team in the east would stop him from getting to the finals. He wanted all these players on dumb contracts.

Because he was gassed.

I know you don't like him, but you have to admit no player has ever been required to do so much for his team like LeBron. It's not passive and/or quitting, the pace they're going with leaves him completely done by the 3rd quarter.

And people can say, "Well MJ wouldn't get tired" but it's irrelevant because MJ never had to do as much for his team for so long like LeBron has, no one should really disagree with that.

It is what it is. CLE has no chance if they continue this pace. Not that they have much of a chance otherwise, but it's their best shot to slow the game down IMO.
