So are we likely to finally get a college football playoff with only conference winners?

Well with big 10 meeting soon to cancel season or move to the spring, no. And most likely will be zero football in fall for anyone. Conferences just keep pushing back to hold off the inevitable.

Haven't all but like 1 or 2 of the 6 CFB Playoffs been all conference winners so far

Nah, we likely don't get a season. Look at how it's going for baseball. You think 18-21 year old guys are going to be more responsible about staying in than the baseball players? There may be a couple of football games, but then they'll get cancelled.

Plus, you have the whole element of "protecting our student athletes." It's going to be impossible to play these guys after any breakout, especially when parents are hammering the conferences/schools/NCAA about keeping their kids safe. It will be easier to just cancel everything, even with the $$$$ at stake.

Sadly most athletes are gullible pussies. They have been convinced they might die deom this virus. Lol. 90‰ of the positives are people who never get sick at all.

There’s no chance college football makes it to a playoff this year.

Still 0% death rate for people below 40.

Damn near 0% hospitalization rate for 20 year olds.

I dont Want ONLY conference winners because the second best team in the SEC is often better than whoever hobbles out the PAC 10 or Big 12.

That being said, I think We should expand to 8. Conference winners 3 at large. If a G6 team is undefeated and in the top 15 (whatever the old BCS formula was) give them a spot.

You're comparing collegiate athletes to professional employees. The former are more easily regulated and controlled by their coaching staff. The latter can generally do whatever the hell they want.

The Bama pass is still good, right? We have a couple punches left on the pass.

So, grabbing a potential 7-4 Arizona State team for the playoff is definitely better than, say a 10-1 LSU?

re: So are we likely to finally get a college football playoff with only conference winners?
My issue with auto bids will always be the chance a mediocre team gets in the playoff:

2012 Wisconsin went 7-5 and due to Ohio State and Penn State both being on probation they won their division and then THROTTLED Nebraska in the B1G Championship Game. That team had zero business being in an expanded playoff.

The same year FSU beat 6-6 Georgia Tech to win the ACC Championship game. It was a close game. GT had zero business being in a playoff.

In 2011 6-6 UCLA played in the first Pac 12 Champonship game. If they had beaten Oregon they would of had zero business being in a playoff.

In 2005 FSU went 7-4 and then upset Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship game. That FSU team would of had no business being in a playoff.

The one positive to the way college football is structured is how important it makes games. Lose 2 games you are eliminated from the playoffs essentially (except for 2007, obviously). Do we want to see CFB get to where teams are throwing the last game of the season like NFL teams do if they have already clinched a spot in their conference championship game?

Isn't that what we had in 2019 when the GOAT team won?
