SI’s preseason Top 25 is designed to set the expectation for the title chase ahead, and so it may surprise some to see reigning champ Alabama outside of the top spot in favor of 2016 champ Clemson. What’s changed since New Year’s Day, when the Crimson Tide cruised to a 24–7 win in the teams’ third consecutive College Football Playoff meeting, this time in the Sugar Bowl semifinal? On defense, the Tigers returned en masse to fulfill their promise, putting off first-round money in the NFL draft to be a part of a special season. On offense, their skill players are no longer so new to the spotlight, and their quarterback situation, while no less settled in early August than the one in Tuscaloosa, has a sky-high ceiling that should allow the rest of the unit to flourish.

1. CLEMSON TIGERS
2. ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE
3. WISCONSIN BADGERS
4. WASHINGTON HUSKIES
5. OKLAHOMA SOONERS

This made me look up Wisconsin’s schedule this year.

Holy hell it is embarrassing.

Time for the West to step up and quit talking about it. Wisconsin does have a couple difficult crossover games on the road, though.

Too bad about BYU, though. Wisconsin scheduled this series when BYU was coming off 10+ wins in six of seven seasons.

It could be much worse, they cross over against Penn State and Michigan.

In 2015 they crossed with Rutgers, and Maryland....

Could be a very dangerous offense.

- Jonathan Taylor broke Adrian Peterson's freshman rush yards record.
- Three OL were All-America last year and a fourth was a Freshman All-America.
- Quintez Cephus returns. Him and Danny Davis, both former four-stars, are future NFL receivers. A.J. Taylor, another four-star, and Kendric Pryor were plenty-productive last season, too.

Defense has more questions to answer, but Wisconsin has finished Top-5 in total defense each season since switching to the 3-4 / 2-4-5. LBs will be strength of the defense, per usual, but there is an NFL player on each level to build around.

No. 3 is too high, without question, but Wisconsin is a Top-10 team.

Thanks for the info. They're a legit top 10 team but 3 seems high right now.

based in what?
Preseason polls discussions crack me up.
We can start arguing after a few weeks of games, but right now any poll is as good as the next one.

Western Kentucky
New Mexico
BYU
at Iowa
Bye
Nebraska
at Michigan
Illinois
at Northwestern
Rutgers
at Penn State
at Purdue
Minnesota

Actually not their easiest slate in recent memory. Road games at Iowa, Michigan, and Penn State won't be gimmes.

Their home schedule is dogshit. I would be pissed if I were a season ticket holder.

Based on what they bring back from last year.
