If signs are something the other team is doing on the field to get an advantage over you, why isnt it fair to intentionally intercept those messages and use them for your own advantage?
I'm not on either side of the arguement..but the pitcher sure gets a LOT of help. He gets signs from the catcher, who gets signs from the manager, who is reading computer model printouts.
It sure seems unfair with all the help the pitcher gets as well

Signing is a necessity, not an advantage. How else would a coach or catcher get a play to one or more of his players/teamates outside of stopping play after every pitch to have a have some sort of huddle?

Or better yet, since supposedly everyone in the league knew the astros were doing it, why not changed the signs between innings to create a better advantage and confused the stros???

That depends. Are you an Astro's fan?

If so....LOL! NO BIG DEAL! QUIT BEING PUSSIES! CHAMPS!

If not...Pretty indefensible and the punishments are laughable.

Teams were changing signs every few batters. They do that anyway when they suspect runners are stealing signs. The way it was done, they were able to decode almost immediately.

ETA: the cocksucking astros fans can downvote simple facts all they want but I'm not bashing. Simply providing truth.

This has been my feelings as well. I don’t give a rip about mlb, but baseball is designed for pre video days. They need to change just like football did.

Football has radios in helmets and 40 people giving fake signs on the sideline to keep their calls from being picked up. Baseball can easily go to a different sign system. Even audible signs like qbs use so they won’t be videoed.

I’m shocked this many people are shocked and also very confident this is like steroids in baseball. Everyone is doing it but a fraction got caught

If sign stealing is so terrible and all these players are outraged and on their soapbox and we’re hearing a record number of Astros will be beaned this year...why don’t we see more outrage whenever teams are stealing signs the old school way?

These guys are smart, they know when their signs are getting stolen.

Btw- if I have to chose an mlb team to win the series it’d be the braves. I’m not a stros fan.

Because the league is catering to the slack jaws who only care about home runs and not the actual game itself.

I’m not going to lie I like home runs as well. Make the balls fly farther and give the catcher and pitcher ear pieces. Make both happy

How about altering the balls again for the postseason so less homers are hit? MLB did that last year. Such an honorable league, i tell ya.

if what I read was correct, someone in the organization developed an algorithm or spreadsheet that enabled the club to quickly decode whatever the signs were regardless of how much the signs were changed.

We are talking about pitches.
If a catcher happens to see a steal sign, and calls a pitch out, is that cheating?
If a DB in the nfl hears and recognizes an audible from Brady, and jumps the route, should he be punished?

No way you don’t see the difference in that and what the Astros did.

I may be wrong but I think they didn’t invent it. I thinks it’s been around for a couple years now

Beltran told Houston they were behind the times. I wonder where he learned that.
