Devin Hester generally considered the best returner of all time

Rick Upchurch before Hester came along he was considered best returner. Was career leader in TD and punt return yards. Was named to top 300 players to ever play I n NFL in 2000

Shane Lechler two all decade teams and 100 year team member. 2nd greatest punter behind Ray Guy (aTm and Texan fans may argue this)

Jason Hanson All pro , 2 time Pro Bowler only Kicker to be named Offensive Rookie of Year. 21 years all with Lions.

Yes but I know not popular opinion on this site. Upchurch I think is criminally undervalued.

In order of specialty return guys who didn't make a HOF caliber impact elsewhere, Devin Hester has to go in first.

Next is Brian Mitchell. It's those two.

Then you have the White Shoes Johnson, Eric Metcalf, Mel Gray and Rick Upchurch discussion.

Lechler, yes. He's also a heck of a youth softball coach.

Ray Guy maybe.

ETA: Nevermind, SMS informed me that Guy was inducted in 2014.

Ray Guy maybe in the Hall of Fame. I would say yes.

You can't argue he didn't have a real impact on the game for a significant amount of time. He and Lechler are pretty much the consensus Top 2 punters in NFL history.

I know so many of the sportswriters and such try to argue about a "part-time" player being Hall of Fame worthy, but I'm not sure you can completely cover the history of the NFL and the development of the game without having the Top 2 punters all time as part of that story.

Ray Guy is already in the Hall of Fame. He was inducted in 14.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't remember him getting in. I just remember the debate for a decade or more as to whether or not he was truly worthy.

You are going to have to explain very slowly to me why an all-purpose player who had 38 career touchdowns (regular season and playoffs combined) shoud be getting into the Hall of Fame instead of Darren Sproles who had 71 career touchdowns (regular season and playoffs combined) and whose career ran parallel to Hester's.

Devin Hester

Knew he was going to be a star when he ran back that blocked FG in the 2004 Peach Bowl. 78 yards in what felt like 2 seconds. He had a pick that game too.

This. He could house it any time he touched the football.

Well that’s easy .., Hester probably the greatest kick returner ever...this is what he’ll go in the Hall for ... on the other hand Sproles is not one of the best RBs ever...
