Should the Braves have kept Dansby?

I don’t know, but I just feel like he was a true “Brave” and fan favorite. Grissom doesn’t seem to be transitioning well defensively.

Seems like a good question to ask in the ATL thread, where people actually care.

Yes. Grissom is a bat off the bench at best currently. He needs 2-3 years of solid defensive coaching to turn into a MLB SS.

The Braves weren't gonna overpay, and what he was asking for and eventually got, 7yr/$177MIL IIRC, is definitely an overpay. The Braves don't overpay for anyone. They are a lot like the Steelers & Patriots in that aspect and why they are one of the best run and most consistently excellent organizations in all of sports.
This is a question that will be better answered at the end of the season.

I think his 2022 year was more of a contract year aberration than what we can expect from him offensively for the future. I think it was wise to let him walk

Dansby had the uncanny ability to strike out when his team absolutely could not afford him to do so.
Liked him, and he was a great SS. But wish him well. Just like Freddie.

Nah don’t worry about the things you cant change. Our options at short are serviceable on both sides. Bigger hole in defense I see is in LF. Ooofzuna better figure out how to get on base and hit bombs because he’s not worth shite defensively.

He's hitting the ball well this spring and has supposedly improved his throwing arm strength a lot.

Struck out 182 times last year. 167 the year before. Not gonna miss that Dansby for 7/$177.

lol...if he was a true brave he wouldn't have signed with the Cubs because of women's soccer, and wouldn't be talking shite about the Braves fanbase that has come out in droves during much of his tenure.

Pussy is still undefeated.

Probably should have. They are in a championship window right now and he was their best option at short stop by far. Might regret it for the next year or two.
But it's not like it was a terrible decision for the franchise either. This front office does seem to have a philosophy that unless they get younger players before their prime to sign team friendly long term contracts (Riley, Acuna, Harris, Albies, Strider etc) then they just aren't usually going to give the "in their prime player" that long term deal that likely ends after the player's performance has declined (Freeman, Swanson, probably Fried coming up, etc). It will continue to give them flexibility to bring in short term help as needed, but I hope not having a better than league average short stop this year doesn't bite them in the arse. We will see.

No.
I’ve never been a big Dansby fan, but I don’t begrudge him one bit for signing that big contract and moving closer to his wife. The man was part of a magical 2021 season, and came up big in some big moments that postseason, and I’ll forever be grateful for his contributions.

Not for that money, but don’t kid yourself. All these guys are mercenaries.
