Should Justin Herbert have entered the Draft last year?

I saw a lot of analysts predicting that he could possibly have been the #1 overall pick last year but it looks like now he will be at best the third QB off the board (behind Burrow and Tua). Did he make a mistake staying an extra year?

He said he wasn't ready IIRC, so no.

If he said he wasn’t mentally ready, can’t argue with it.

It could be for the best, as he may end up on a better team.

I think he’ll probably go before Tua factoring in injuries unless Tua lights it up at the combine and shows no residual effects from the surgeries.

Too early to say. Don’t know where he’s going to go yet and even if it costs him money on his rookie deal in the short term, if he wasn’t mentally ready like he said it still could benefit him in the long run

I have a feeling that both (Along with Jordan Love) will have very good combines.

Let's see, he still gonna get paid and he might get lucky and avoid Miami and Cincy.
Win win....and he wanted to be with his brother for a year.

No because he will end up still being the 1st QB taken and he stayed because he was UO fan all his life.

You are basing this off a CBS Mock that is just a crap shoot with no combine or guys truly watching film who made it.

He’s getting an extra year of reps and experience. He might lose money at the start of his career by sliding a few spots in the draft, but it will be worth it if he’s better prepared for the NFL.
College starts and passes attempted are still two of the best predictors for QBs to have a successful career.

How do you know this?

not going first can be a blessing. do you think Rodgers has regrets?

Projections before the players declare and the the teams evaluate them are meaningless. He’s got his team in position to win their conference and make the playoff or at worst the Rose Bowl and he’ll still probably be a first rounder

No, and he’s still the best QB of this draft class.

if a player is projected to go in the first two rounds, declare for the draft. herbert was a projected top 5 - 10 pick.
he's a fricking dumbass for coming back. would've gotten more development with an nfl coaching staff than staying at uo.

Maybe. I've watched him play. His arm is elite, which is why the NFL loves him, but there is a lot to like in a few of the QBs coming out.

He said he wasn't ready mentally to handle that. I'm not sure how you can argue with that decision.
I get the chance of injury and all, but the chances are pretty slim that a somewhat immobile, pocket QB gets an injury that really hurts his potential.

He's good. He has the best arm strength and is proving to be way more consistent this year and making better decisions.
But Burrow has that dog in him and can make every throw as well.
Both are big and have avoided injuries. Both are accurate and successful. Burrow is a lot more athletic, Herbert a little taller and a little stronger arm.
Surprisingly, they've thrown the ball almost at the same volume clip, so their stats are very apples to apples...
Herbert: 200/288, 69.4%, 24 TDs 2 INTs, 8.1 YPA
Burrow: 236/299, 78.9%, 33 TDs 4 INTs, 10.7 YPA
Herbert: 32 rushes, 4 yards, 1 TD
Burrow: 66 rushes, 189 yards, 3 TDs

He wanted to play with his brother and have a chance at the playoffs. He's got one down and still has a good shot at the other.
