Shaq had an awkward interview with Donovan Mitchell during Inside the NBA

Spida puts up 36/7/5 and becomes the fastest player to 600 Three’s and the first thing Shaq tells him is “I think you don’t have what it takes to be a great player.” To Donovan’s credit he handled it pretty well by just saying “Aight”

Minutes later Shaq continues his petty crusade by bashing Rudy Gobert once again LINK
I love Inside the NBA, favorite show on television, but Shaq being a immature insecure kid really brings the show down

Shaq has some beef with Utah for some reason. Its not just a Mitchell or Gobert thing

Shaq can't accept the fact that he's an old man and no one really cares about him anymore

Shaq sucks if he wasn’t one of us I am not sure if there’s a whole lot to like about him.

To be fair, Shaq said he intentionally said it and that Donovan is one of his favorite players. And then Donovan followed up by saying he’s heard that his whole life and uses as motivation. And then shaq said “good, that’s what I wanted to hear you say”.
I don’t think Shaq was dogging him like that, more of hoping Donovan keeps pushing and wanting him to be elite.

Nothing wrong with what he said. He challenged him.

I was surprised to learn that Mitchell only has 2 double doubles in his career, as was the topic discussed on the show last night.
People just assume Mitchell has ascended into superstar status based on his last few seasons and his amazing bubble performance, but he's a bit of a 1-trick.

quote:You are correct here, it's not like I thought from the OP, but it's still incredibly stupid. Shaq is acting like DMitch has to prove something to Shaq specifically or that Shaq's words in telling DMitch he's not good enough should have any weight at all on DMitch.

His 1st answer saying "aight" was perfect, and she have left it at that and said nothing more.

It was awkward but It’s pretty obvious Shaq said it for motivational purposes. That’s why he even repeated it and expounded on it

Gobert stuff has nothing to do with Utah. Shaq disrespects all big men who are "stars" but aren't averaging 25 and 12.

Nah Shaq loves to talk down on people...and then tries to call it motivation. Very easy to see what he is doing. All that shite he talked about Dwight Howard, he said he was trying to motivate him. yea right who is gonna believe that crap.

It’s a crutch. Love Shaq but he doesn’t have anything interesting to say and isn’t naturally funny in that setting like Chuck so he just craps on everybody. I think it flustered him that Donovan didn’t seem to care.

When you say "that's what i wanted to hear" and "i love you brother", i seriously doubt he was trying do anything other than motivate him.

he always says that. He shite on Dwight Howard for years and years then tried to call it motivation.

That's just how Shaq is, he's old school, I'm gonna challenge you by telling you where you are weak at.... Let's see what you do now. He's just pushing Mitchell. Shaq knows what it takes to win a chip. Just pure motivation, you could see it in Mitchell's face, he was boiling under his skin when Shaq told him that. It worked.

the jazz play very few games like that and Mitchell gets very few of those kind of interviews. And the first thing Shaq does is take a big crap on the guy after a great game.
Donovan Mitchell ain’t motivated by nothing Shaq can say.
Typical Shaq though.

Got no issue with this. At least he did it to his face and wasn’t a Twitter fight.

Charles sounded dumb saying Shaq wouldn’t make the league today

That’s the thing, it’s one thing to use constructive criticism to motivate a player to light a fire that maybe hasn’t been seen, I’m all for that. Love when coaches just told me upfront what they were feeling. But it’s another thing to crap on a guy and offer no advice
