re: SF 49ers in mourning. three #1s and no Aaron Rodgers
The 49ers screwed up. They should have been giving up Jimmy and another significant player plus the #3 pick plus next years 1st round pick to get Rodgers.

On what planet is Jimmy a helpful asset to the GB FO that invested a 1st round pick on Rodgers' replacement last year? Is Jimmy a >$20m backup? They might as well resign the second they hit the submit button, GB isn't interested in that.

The #3 pick was earned through a function of a 2021 first swap and 2 other firsts. What "next year's 1st round pick"? 2024? 4 first round picks for a 37 yo for a >$35m annual cap hit? frick that PEEEEEEJ

One needs to remember the Pack is likely a .500 team over the past decade without Rodgers.

And Love isn't going to continue the streak of great QB's in Green Bay.

Trading him, no matter what they get, is not going to improve the team. I mean last year he was 48/5 with one excellent receiver and a bunch of guys.

Maybe he doesn't want to go somewhere that just gave up 3 1's.

IF he moves, it won't be to rebuild

Man people act like Rodgers isn't 1-4 in nfc championships. Pack D got him 3 picks in second half vs the bucs had home field too.

Well if his strategy is to demand that they trade him for zero return, then he may as well sign the retirement paperwork now

4 years ago, the Packers were a sub .500 team when Rodgers was out injured. He came back the next year and they were still a sub .500 team. The new GM came in and turned things around (emphasizing defense).

People keep hating on Love. But the Packers needed another QB, especially with Rodgers health and age concerns. You can't just shite can a season (happened before) because Rodgers gets hurt. I don't know why people keep glossing over that.

Now Rodgers wants the GM fired. The GM that just rebuilt them into a SB contender and has been with the organization over 20 years..

Is that fair in your opinion? Do you think he was worth trading up for? Especially when the AR window was closing and he might demand to be traded as a result?

Given the amount of value (and percent of the salary cap) that a top QB represents I think a bad season is a typical expectation for any team who loses their best player. The Patriots years ago were the most recent exception to that rule (even that is arguable considering their playoff results).

I think you can safely argue that if Brady, Wilson, Mahomes, or AR don't play next year that their teams are no longer going to be in contention for a deep playoff run. I totally get the Packers wanting to be able to develop for the future but the guy (AR) who felt urgency about his present window closing was going to have a different set of needs and respond accordingly.

If the Packers aren't in win NOW mode as their HOF quarterback's career dwindles then they should understand him refusing to play for them.

Yes. Love was rated as a top 10ish pick and slid down. The Packers gave up a 4th rounder to move up a few spots to grab him. The next QB taken was Hurts almost 30 picks later. If you want a good young QB, you have to be aggressive. The Packers needed a strong back up QB. The heir apparent stuff wasn't the only motivation.

What defines win now mode? The Packers have built a strong dynamic team organically. The foundation is set. If they don't take Love, they have a massive hole behind Rodgers. But who should they have taken instead? The next offensive skill player taken was CEH. Should they have taken him? They took Dillon later late in the 2nd. He couldn't crack the two deep.

Should they have taken a WR instead? Higgins and Pittman were the next two WRs taken. What would they have done for the Packers? The 2nd and 3rd WR last year had really strong years (both had over 30 catches and 400 yards). The TE had a monster year and the OL is one of the best units in the league.

If you are Rodgers, the Packers are the beat place to play and win. They have stronger supporting casts and better management than the 49ers or Broncos. They haven't done anything wrong..

They didn't keep their franchise QB in the loop. Just the opposite, the new GM came in and immediately made moves that did nothing to help Aaron take this team to the super bowl. Getting rid of Aaron's favorite receiver and close friend Jordy Nelson was grade A stupid. Another GM look at me, I'm the new boss moment. Instead, he had to watch his supposed successor waiting his turn on the bench. Physiologically a poor choice of picks for the new guy.

The GM could have put out a little of the predraft fire and built some bridges back had he finally loaded up on the offensive side of the ball. Unfortunately, another GM look at me moment.

I don't think this thing is doable now. I wondered when it first got out but Aaron doesn't like the dude and I think Green Bay better rethink the wheel.

re: SF 49ers in mourning. three #1s and no Aaron Rodgers
The GM has been with the team over 20 years. He has worked his way up and is following his predecessors formula. They are a tiny market team that is built responsibly. He isn't showing up Rodgers. When he took over the team, they were sub .500. He has turned them around. His draft record is very strong and they have a clean cap.

I will ask again, what should he have done different? He should have asked Rodgers permission to draft a back up? Kept Nelson, who is out of the league? Traded for Will Fuller? Sign Antonio Brown?

People need to realize what this really is. He is trying to force a trade. The Packers aren't biting and they haven't done anything wrong..

That "strong backup QB" was inactive for every game last year. Couldn't beat out the guy already sitting on the bench.

If you have a QB like Rodgers you don’t draft a backup QB in the first round lol

His predecessor was decidedly average while also refusing to sign any free agents.

One SB win in 12 years of Rodgers starting doesn't point to a great front office or draft evaluators.

You sound like one of the "Trust Ted" sycophant's.

An older quarterback still playing at a high level.

Other people seem to think that without AR playing the offense will be very pedestrian (and the team below .500)

True of every team with a great starting quarterback

quote:

But who should they have taken instead?

The reaction would have been better with any pick other than a quarterback. That was a statement delivered from franchise to AR. This offseason we have the corresponding statement from AR to franchise.

Put Kirk Cousins in place of Rodgers the past decade and what do you have?

Now I don't care for Rodgers tactics, but I can definitely see why he's unhappy. Packer fans that don't drink the Kool Aid are not happy either.
