Seems like ideal year for expanding the CFP...

I mean, why not? It’s an odd season anyway. If the PAC 12 gets their shite together and plays, why not expand the playoffs to 6 or 8 and just see how it goes? Time to experiment with it.

Well considering the 4th team in got beat by 35 points last year, I don't think we need any worse teams in.

Can we at least wait until we have competitive semifinals before discussing expansion?

There is never an ideal year. In fact it should go back to 2.

Considering that the #4 team has won a few times, no.

I love how this is used as an argument ... as if the fourth team in hasn’t won the playoffs twice already
The only way I’d be down for an expansion is if you reward the teams who had elite regular seasons by giving them a bye. Don’t feel that the teams who went 12/13-0 should start on equal playoff footing as teams who dropped several games in the regular season.
Still think it’d be better to keep it at four and revamp the conferences to eliminate divisions and allow each conference championship game to be a true 1 vs 2. It would be a de facto expansion and make that weekend awesome.

That's why I like the 6-team format. Gives top 2 a bye

8 teams. Automatic qualifier for P5 conference champion. Makes conference championships worth something. At large for remaining 3. Anymore than 8 would water the regular season down to me.

8 teams.
5 - P5
1 - G5
2 - At Large
Conferences get to decide how their auto bid is awarded.

Keep it at 4
Last year one of the 4 best teams allowed 49 points in the first half, we don't need another 4 teams

What if it means LSU gets in?

its beyond time to go to a straight 8 team playoff with no off dates
5 power 5 division winners, if you didnt win your division the go to the weedeater or toaster oven bowl instead
then add the best 3 of national ranked teams that arent from the power 5 divisions. we all know notra dame is always an absolute lock to get in, then two more randoms

No playoffs. Just go back to bowls and let voters decide the champion

Lets just do Conference Champions; it will give the ACC about a month's preparation for the playoffs waiting for everyone else to finish their season.
ACC champ - waits; SEC champ then waits, Big10 champ then waits...Pac12 champ finishes by July.
