LSU and the 2007 West Virginia-Pitt game.

If WVU wins, does Miles take the Michigan job? If he stays at LSU, does he make it to the 2011 season?

Mentioned this in another thread but Georgia and 2017 B1G Championship. Had Wisconsin won that game, Bama would have been bounced from the playoffs. Wisconsin would have played Clemson and Georgia would have played the winner and would have probably won.

A lot of schools were effected by this one, with LSU and Michigan being the ones that come to mind first.

Yes, I think Miles to Michigan was a done deal and that Herbstreit was correct in his reporting. Absolutely no one thought Pitt was beating WVU that night. Once LSU was unexpectedly locked into the national title game, Miles stayed because coaches don't leave when preparing for a national title.

Saban was wrapping his first year at Bama in 2007. He wouldn’t have left Bama to return to LSU, especially with what he was bringing back at Bama in 2008.

not even the B1G CCG, if OSU doesn't have the most embarrassing loss of the year to iowa they are in over bama.

I think he was gone to Michigan but if he had stayed sliding doors is equally as interesting.

Les probably doesn't make it past 2009 and maybe is fired in 2008 after the Ole Miss game. 2006 is going to look at worse without the 2007 title, 06 was the more talented team.

With Saban ramping up Alabama the fanbase would have been in full melt down. LSU probably goes after Muschamp

What is Spurrier's/Florida's legacy if FSU is allowed to play Arizona State instead of being forced to replay a Florida team they already beat at the end of the regular season?

And what is Jake Plummer's legacy if that happens?

Ohio State would have played WVU for the title.

Exactly. LSU not playing for the title would've dramatically increased Miles' chances of leaving.

What if Michael Vick had remained committed to Syracuse to succeed Donovan McNabb.

I’ve hated Ohio State for 25 years on the other end of this. I didn’t know the FSU/UF implications back then. Would have been fascinating and welcome. (Granted how things turned out.)

He was already at Alabama. No way he quits the Dolphins job then quits the Bama job in under 2 years.

Old school bowl tie-ins forced the rematch. FSU could not play ASU like they should have because the Pac 10 and B1G didn't join the Bowl Alliance because the Precious Rose Bowl had to be preserved.

2 was Arizona State (tied to the Rose Bowl)
3 was Florida
4 was Ohio State (tied to the Rose Bowl)
5 was BYU (therefore, they weren't seriously considered)

It was a clusterfrick, and the least desirable outcome happened and doomed that system.

What if Mike Price doesn't get caught with hookers and has a good career at Alabama?

Other schools that had college openings in 2006 (Saban Year):

Miami
UNC
Michigan State
Arizona State
Stanford
Louisville
NC State
Minnesota
