Saint Amant v. East Ascension square off tonight

One of the biggest rivalries in Louisiana 5A Football is renewed tonight.
Gators come in at 7-2 with losses to Lutcher and Catholic High.
Spartans are 8-1 with their sole loss also coming to Catholic High, and their additional win coming over that same Lutcher squad.
At least 7500 and possibly 9000+ are expected to be on hand tonight to watch this annual clash of coonasses despite no division title being on the line like last year's meeting (Catholic's already clinched). However, the game should be important for playoff seeding.
There should be literal fireworks, a ton of over-the-top contrived pageantry as the host team tries to one-up the previous year's hype, and of course, plenty of jambalaya and hot chocolate.
Anyone going tonight?

So Catholic won the Division but plays for a different Title if they make it to State? Is this correct?

You are correct.
The LHSAA playoffs have been split between private (select admissions)schools and traditional public (non-select) schools for five years, now.

Saint Amant is basically playing for a chance to host round one... and bragging rights of course. They are 17th in the rankings now and are the lowest ranked two loss team.

So why be in the same division of teams you won't see in the playoffs?

Money
They want to play them in the regular season for the gate with admissions but not in the playoffs so they can win. Basically its a load of bs, pubic schools "recruit" as much if not more. When the "select" schools get tired of the current arrangement, they will completely break off and form their own league. While also taking certain non-select schools with them it will be sad but its what it has come down to because you have 1A and 2A very small public schools that have an equal say as the largest 5A schools. The schools that wanted the split still dont win

Will be there cheering on the Gators! Arrive early if you’re going! Burnside may be shutdown tonight!
St. Amant win should clinch a home game for the first round of the playoffs for the 4th straight season and another Ascension Parish championship!
I’m expecting a low scoring game. It’ll be tough for this St Amant offense to move the ball. They haven’t been that good offensively compared to the last few seasons and EA has a very good defense

People were setting up their tents and RVs yesterday. Almost looks like an LSU game in Ascension Parish

Can someone explain to me the orange colors?
I am a transplant to the St. Amant area by way of Central, and I don’t know the significance of the Orange color. Oldest will be starting at St. Amant Primary next year so I need to learn the local history.

Transplant as well so let me give you my best understanding. EA wears camo because they are going “Gator Hunting”, STA wears hunters orange because we ain’t scared. If I’m wrong, someone correct me.

Sounds about right. All I Know is my son uses my camo and only half of it makes it back home.

Makes sense... I used to hate St. Amant back in my playing days at Central. My sophomore year Reid Brignac caught a late touchdown to go ahead of us in hard fought game. Then my Junior year in a cold wet slop we had a benches clearing brawl which resulted in us having approx 30-40 players ejected. However, revenge was served my senior year
:insert uncle Rico:
I love living in St Amant, it kinda reminds me of Central in my younger years before all the Baton Rouge exodus out there.

I love it out here in St Amant too. It reminds me of growing up in Da Parish
