The chargers were a really good team missing a QB and a head coach. The Bengals were and are a complete dumpster fire from top to bottom.

You can say Washington, Detroit, and NYG also made big mistakes not drafting Herbert based off what has happened in the last 1.25 years.

Detroit had Stafford so not sure you can say they missed. If Herbert is there I am not sure they get the haul for Stafford they got from the Rams.

Giants were and are all in on Jones, why I am not sure, but that is where we are in the world.

WFT is the one that "may" have missed and probably can say they missed. But they took the projected (by some not all) top pick before the year in Young, so that was a great pick for them.

Heinicke looks like a good player and is on a much more team friendly contract.

They had a good QB in 2019 and still were trash.

I know he’s not better than him right this second.

I know what I typed was misleading but what I meant by how good he is is he’s “oh shite he can be Mahomes good,” while I don’t think Burrow is on THAT level(or doesn’t have THAT ceiling).

Check out this hard hitting analysis from Mr. QB Guru

Quite literally the only person I’ve ever seen who doesn’t think the Bengals were a dumpster fire.

I’d love here the logic behind this one. Or does your weirdo irrational disdain for Burrow have your little peabrain too scrambled to muster up anything besides “eh”.

The Chargers went 9-7, 12-4 and then 5-11 the 3 years before Herbert was drafted.

Eh.

The Bengals haven't had a winning season since 2015.

So? Are you under the impression that a backup couldn't win a game for the chargers if they were given 6 chances?

Also, what does this have to do with what's being discussed? The Chargers won 12 games 2 years before Herbert was drafted and you're here acting like he's resurrecting that franchise from the dead.

Herbert is certainly better right now but I think burrow is going to be very very good. Also there were red flags on Herbert so taking him 1.1 I think would have been an overdraft. Burrow was much safer pick and will turn out to be a great pick IMO. Miami is where the problem is. Tua had HUGE red flags of his own

This. I’d certainly take Herbert over Burrow at this point though. Dude’s arm is amazing and he’s extremely smart to boot. Burrow will have a great career though as long as they can figure protection out.

I'd give Herbert and edge over Burrow right now but Cinci definitely doesn't have buyer's remorse. Miami really messed up with Tua. He can't stay healthy.

I love burrow but this is the absolute truth

Herbert can be a transcendent player

Burrow is kind of limited

Tom Brady is kinda limited too. Things worked out ok.

I would say he has the most talent, however I don’t think the bengals fricked up. Joe is awesome as well. Miami fricked up

I mean every team with the first pick in the draft has problems but LSU fans are greatly exaggerating the ineptitude of the Bengals. Let's face it, they were a bad team but they tanked to get Burrow and in today's NFL that's probably the right move although nobody will admit it.

They still have a decent foundation in place. Burrow is legit. Mixon is a solid all purpose back. They hit on their WR draft picks - Chase and Higgens. Uzomah is an emerging TE with soft hands. And the OL, while below average, has improved and was never as bad as LSU fans claimed. They brought in some good defensive free agents to go with their young talent and their defense is much improved - climbing from around 25th to top 10 so far.

And let's not forget the Bengals organization recently managed to go to the playoffs six times in seven years with Marvin Lewis (a certified idiot) as their coach, Andy Dalton (a banged up journeyman) as their QB. They can't be that bad.

This isn't like Stafford being drafted by the Lions or Darnold being drafted by the Jets. The Bengals have made solid moves and are right on pace to rebuild as a playoff contender. This is the NFL, miracles don't happen overnight. Bring in a new coaching staff, draft your franchise QB and some weapons to complement him and manage your cap space to plug the gaps with free agents. That's your typical three year remodeling plan and the Bengals are executing it fine so far. That isn't a dumpster fire, it's SOP for every organization not named the Patriots.

The offensive line was that bad. They added about 7 new linemen in the off-season to improve it.

Andy Dalton was a three time pro bowler who played for the Bengals for the first 9 years of career, playing in all 16 games in 6 of his first 7 years before having injury issues.

It's unfair to call him a journeyman or "banged up" when the Bengals were going to the playoffs consistently. They haven't been to the playoffs since 2015 and have been pretty terrible in the draft since then. Before Burrow, their first round picks were Jonah Williams, Billy Price, John Ross, William Jackson, and Cedric Ogbuehi.

PFF graded their offensive line 30/32 in both the 2019 and 2020 seasons, and 27th in 2018. They haven't had a top 20 scoring defense since 2017. They haven't won a playoff game since 1990. Before the 2019 season They hired a coach who had never, on any level, been a head coach before.

Prior to Burrow's arrival, and for the last 30 years, the Bengals are the definition of a dumpster fire franchise with an owner who doesn't care about winning.

I don't get why any Bama QB is drafted in the first round...... They are playing with house money that is useless in the NFL.

Herbert is a better QB right now but he went to a way better organization than Burrow did… however with what Burrow has had to work with he has done an excellent job.

The line excuse is what is going to be the biggest separator.

Herbert’s line played like trash last season and he played well in spite of that. He was literally the best in the league against the blitz.

Burrow’s line played like trash and he was a lemon.
