Saban is easily the GOAT. Why not give the NFL another shot?

He's absolutely amazing. The college game is just too easy for him. Why not take on the ultimate challenge of succeeding in the nfl?

He enjoys coaching in college

Saban is a control freak. He can build his own roster in college, or at the very least have the opportunity to. Not so much in the NFL

No point in doing it for him I would think. You’ve built a machine, and make millions, why leave it for some dumpster fire, especially when you already have an NFL stint.

Maybe he likes getting paid a gagillion dollars to be dominant at a job he is happy with? The NFL is not the same job at all.

You act like he hates his job or is consumed by hobbies. Dude is doing what he loves and getting paid handsomely for it. Saban ain’t wired like you or me

He can’t stack his roster in the pros like he can in college.

He’s a great coach but I’m not sure that he can fit the old line of “he’d take his eleven vs your eleven and beat you and then he’d take your eleven vs his eleven and beat you”

Now he’s the GOAT at the biggest part of college program building-recruiting

Because it's easier and more fun when you can recruit elite talent and go into every game significantly more talented than the opposition.

Control issues. He cannot control professional players and the media like he can in Tuscalosa

He’s not a good enough coach. He doesn’t win with coaching...he wins on talent. He’s a god coach and that’s part of the equation but his teams have been so loaded for 10 years. The NFL doesn’t allow 1 team to hoard the talent like that. He would probably do ok as a pro but he wouldn’t dominate like he does.

I'll be sure to mention your suggestion to him next time I meet with him.

Yes, he is amazing. He's the best CFB coach of all time. Do you think he might risk tarnishing his GOAT reputation by coaching again in the NFL?

Parity and NFL talent are his kryptonite. The talent gap he has at Bama is overwhelming most seasons. That doesn't exist in the NFL.

12 years ago yes

Now? I could see an NFL franchise giving him complete control of the entire operation.

To answer the OP though, its because he's almost 70.

He doesnt get to bribe players into coming to play on your nfl team. He actually has to draft good players. In college, he gets the best each year to play for him.

No point to going to the nfl again. He’s built a program at Bama where he has people who would literally throw themselves in front of a bullet for him and he has total control of everything.

When he does retire, he’ll do so as the best college coach ever. Very few, if any, people will say, “yeah, but he couldn’t make it in the nfl.”

When Nick Saban was flying from Miami to Tuscaloosa in January 2007, he had a question for Mal Moore, the athletics director who had hired Saban to be the Alabama football coach. “You think you’ve hired the best coach in America, don’t you?” Saban said.

Moore said that, yes, he thought he had.
Saban refuted the answer of his new boss. “No,” he said. “You didn’t hire the best coach. But you did hire the best recruiter.”

quote:

“In the NFL, you only get one first-round draft pick, and that’s if it hadn’t already been traded away,” Saban once told me. “In college, I could recruit ten players with first-round talent every year.”
