It was just a matter of time. Sponsors were going to pull out of deals.

Get your (more) money and go live on an island somewhere.

Yep, sooner than I thought but this was always the end result once the sponsors starting going.

A certain Pels beat writer was complaining that it's not fair that his punishment is to make a couple of billion.

I can't recall what podcast I heard it on, probably Bill Simmons, but these guys don't necessarily NEED these teams, it's more about the prestige of owning a professional sports team. That's why they don't go up for sale all too often because these rich guys just like having them.

Well, yea.

Not every one of these teams make boatloads of money.

I remember in the Lebron/Miami days, the owner lost I think something like $40mil a year during those years. But for most of them, they do not care about the money coming in. It's just a toy to have, and some are definitely obsessed with trying to win too.

Damn, I thought he was the type to hold out even if it burns down all around him.

It's not a bad investment for what teams in the major sports are worth these days
All these long time owners have made a ton of money for when they do decide to sell
