Not sure if this was covered here. I mentioned it in the hockey thread, but I think this has flown under the radar in the midst of the ESPN firings.

The Death of Baseball Tonight

Granted, baseball isn't what it once was 15 or 20 years ago. You'd think that they would care a little more about promoting something they have the rights to broadcast. Maybe that won't be the case much longer. It's a shame either way.

Baseball is in much better shape than 15-20 years ago, despite what ESPN wants us to think.

Baseball Tonight with Ravech, Gammons and HR was great, but even more reason to stick with MLB channel

Baseball is doing better today than it was 15-20 years ago.

This is simple to me. I used to watch Baseball Tonight all the time. Then the MLB Network came along, and it kicks arse so I stopped watching Baseball Tonight. MLB Network killed the need for it.

Yeah, there's no reason to watch baseball on ESPN unless it's Sunday night. Just watch MLBN.

Haven't watched Baseball Tonight in probably 4-5 years. MLB network completely blows it away. I like the format and how it's not so buttoned up, for lack of a better term. Also their Live feeds from games at various times with the background commentary is great.

Baseball is in great shape, however, it wouldn't surprise me if they dropped their baseball broadcasts when their current contract is up. They have to cut somewhere, and baseball doesn't appeal to the whole hip-hop African American demographic they now seem to target. I mean Michael and Jemele can't really break down baseball and probably don't care to. It's their loss..MLB network is a much superior product

God forbid that ESPN show highlights of the second most popular league in America rather than push their SJW talking points.

ESPN's baseball coverage has been declining since they lost Jon Miller and Peter Gammons. Losing Miller in particular was a huge blow. Miller is one of the greatest baseball announcers ever and I'm sure many people tuned in to watch SNB just to hear him call a game. Without him, there's no reason to watch SNB unless your team's playing or you're just a baseball diehard in general.

Guys, as this is the 100th thread bitching about espn.

Stop. Watching.

As others in this thread have said, the league networks are superior. If LSU or whomever your favorite college team is playing on espn, watch the game. Otherwise don't tune in.

I was amazed at all the people bitching last night about their draft coverage, I watched NFL networks coverage and had a pleasant experience.

Outside of PTI which I still DVR and LSU football games I won't be tuning into espn broadcasting or radio anymore.

What impact might this have on ESPN's coverage of college beisbol, which had been increasing dramatically in recent years?

MLB Network blows all of the other league networks away. I was watching the NFL draft coverage on NFL Network yesterday and I was shocked by how awful it was. They were interviewing fans, talking about social media and constantly doing fluff pieces instead of breaking down the draft picks. After a while, I just watched it on mute until the picks came in.

I watch MLB network every day. It feels like the old ESPN baseball shows.

They're still under contract to broadcast the SEC, ACC, and Post season. So that's going to keep happening.

I don't know what kind of ratings they're getting on it though. They get good streaming numbers for LSU baseball games. I'm not sure how well other teams draw on there though.

It really does. It's my default channel when nothing else is on.

ESPN is going to be showing Intentional Talk now to keep baseball content, but not have as much production cost.

Of course they pick the one show that's the most "ESPN-y" of all of them.

Quick pitch is a great recap highlight show. Sometimes if I am in a rush for school I'll record it

Back in the late 90's through 2005 or so, I would be glued to the tv and Baseball Tonight when the trade deadline was at midnight. Being on summer vacation and not having to worry about getting up early, I watched the shite out of that show to see if the Braves were going to do anything (back when they were good enough to be in the market for trade deadline difference makers).
