Remember the narrative that Seattle had awful O-Line and couldn’t protect poor Russell?

Guess who’s the most sacked QB this year? Yup Russell Wilson(tied with Fields). And that’s with 2 games missed.

When he was in Seattle, people saw him running for his life and thought his OLine was bad. What they don’t realize is that Russell Wilson’s style of play is the reason he was under constant pressure. Wilson has the propensity to extend plays alllowing pass rushers to get off their blocks and pursue him. But since he made long occasional gains on those plays, people were overlooking the liability of his style.

Russell Wilson essentially has been in the top 5 in QB sacked category every year with the exception of 2021. And him getting sacked goes back to his days in college at NC st and Wisconsin.

I've said this previously, he plays hero ball and doesn't check it down. Always goes for the first down and the big play instead of occasionally going for the smart play.

Okay but Denver’s OL was actually a wreck this year (not tryna give Russ excuses he has his flaws but this ain’t it)

Yea just saying he was sacked this year doesn't mean his OL wasn't bad in Seattle too.

Wilson can't see over the line so he always has to scramble outside the ta kle box to make plays. That's why he gets sacked all the time.

A 5"10' QB (on a good day) can't pass over the middle from the pocket, which equates to no short passing game.

Geno was 3rd in the league in sacks behind Wilson and Fields. So Seattle oline was bad too.

Russell Wilson is Danny Devito who had a badass defense and played in a Wisconsin offensive style in Seattle. Nice contract dumbasses

He should talk to Jim Plunkett.

Jim didn't become a SB MVP until he got traded to the Raiders and was lectured by his O-line.

He was the sack king in New England and known as a QB who scrambled for his life and everyone blamed it on a bad Pats O-line.

His Raiders O-line told him he played scared and was dropping back way too far, like 10 yards and breaking containment and the pocket. They said we can't protect you if you don't stay in that bubble.

Wilson is short. I bet he overcompensates by dropping back too far.

Young Russell Wilson was the most elusive NFL quarterback behind the line of scrimmage I'd ever seen until Kyler. He was like a punt returner with his evasive moves in the backfield. Problem is that he's not young anymore.

So every year he’s been playing since college, he’s the most sacked QB and it ain’t him? You know OLine changes year in year out and Russell Wilson is the one constant. I already connected the dots for you. All you have to do is look at the line.

I remember. I disproved that pretty conclusively last year on this board. It’s his playstyle not the O line. He’s gets sacked with more time to throw than any other QB bc he’s always looking for the deep ball.

I’d argue his height and release point reduces his ability to throw short passes bc they have much less angle on them to get over the O line/D line, so he compensated by throwing more deep balls

Idk about that. Drew Brees made a career out of the short passing game from the pocket. Not saying it's easy. That's why teams prefer taller qbs's. But it can be done.

The Saints having elite (or at least very good) G/C player for much of Brees career shows how you manage the OLine for a shorter QB.
