Rays likely moving to Ybor
LINK

Good riddance. Let the Tampa taxpayers spend an insane amount of money for the stadium

Are they going to build a smaller park since they've always had trouble filling the current one?

I think they're still trying to find sponsors/funding. Plus they will owe St. Pete $24 million if they do end up moving.

Smaller park makes a hell of a lot of sense though

Is this new site going to be easier to get to than the current one? I know the new stadium will be a vast improvement over the current one. Southern's baseball field is an improvement over the current stadium.

That’s odd. I know folks in St. Pete and they said that area is up and coming and that Tampa is not the place to be. They said so many new places are opening up and that downtown St. Pete is growing.

$800 million stadium. I hope Florida tax payers learned from their mistakes with the Marlins. People don't care about the Rays. They don't show up. Just like the Marlins. And taking them out of the outdated, inconveniently located stadium didn't move the needle...people still didn't care.

Traffic in that area is awful and will only worse. Tropicana is pretty damn easy to get to if you live in the St. Pete/Clearwater area.

Ybor is still not a place you wander around, although I've heard it has gotten better. The growth in the downtown St. Pete area has been incredible. I think most of this has to do with St. Pete not wanting to foot the bill on an unnecessary new stadium

DTSP is growing but it's still relatively small. More people in Hillsborough than Pinellas. Easier access for Central Florida.

I don't know if it'll clean up Ybor but it's going to be a nightmare getting to the stadium.

You clearly have never attended a game outside of St. Pete.

I've been to several MLB games in various cities and can confirm the Trop is a DUMP. It is by far the worst stadium in MLB

Hey kids, want to go to the beach or a Rays game? It’s the beach every single time...

They should just move the franchise to somewhere boring like Nebraska and they’d pack the house.

re: Rays likely moving to Ybor
Have been to many MLB stadiums. Why is the top not good enough for a team that has poor yearly attendance issues? I certainly don't want to pay for a new stadium when the Rays will have attendance issues a few years after building the new stadium.

I also don't get the Trop hate. Is it the worst in the MLB? Probably. It's still not a bad stadium to watch a game. Certainly not worth dropping close to a billion largely funded by the taxpayers to build a new stadium

DTSP is convenient for Tampa, Clearwater, St. Pete, Bradenton/Sarasota. It's also a lot nicer than Tampa. Traffic from St. Pete to Tampa is 100x worse. The Ybor location will make it a PIA for St. Pete residents and Bradenton/Sarasota residents.

I took advantage of some cheap SWA flights from nola to tampa to bring my wife on a weekend "getaway"

Busch Gardens
Beach
Rays Game
Pretty good food, cigars, and local beer
Spent less than $700

Not gonna lie, I was disappointed with the St. Pete beaches but it was still a great trip

I partied there a few times, but yea you didn't want to leave the main street of bars and clubs.

The only thing great about attending a game at the Trop is you can watch your favorite visiting team for bargain basement prices

We paid $25/ticket and were 10 rows behind the third base dugout.
