re: Rank the AP NFL MVP winners of the 1990s
I have nothing against Favre, but damn, I’d forgotten about what a media darling he was.

#1 Joe

I can’t decide between Sanders and Davis

Young
Smith
Favre
Warner- hate to put him so low because he totally was the MVP that year.

Thomas - tough call because he had a great year. Someone has to be last.

'95 Brett Favre was better than '96 or '97 Brett Favre

I'm not sure what your criteria is (single season, career or spectularness), but I'm going to choose by who I think were the best at peak.

Steve Young
Kurt Warner
Brett Favre
Joe Montana
Barry Sanders
Terrell Davis
Thurman Thomas
Emmitt Smith

Brett Farve played every game for 8 years before Warner started and was still on his streak when Warner retired.

I think that is correct or close. I have no problem with Warner, just like to point that out since Warner is a HOF'er.

re: Rank the AP NFL MVP winners of the 1990s
FWIW, here's the approximate values of each player during their MVP seasons.

1999 Kurt Warner- 19
1998 Terrell Davis- 22
1997 Barry Sanders- 19
1997 Brett Favre- 17
1996 Brett Favre- 17
1995 Brett Favre- 18
1994 Steve Young- 23
1993 Emmitt Smith- 20
1992 Steve Young- 22
1991 Thurman Thomas- 20
1990 Joe Montana- 14

Blasphemous as it is to say, Joe Montana's 1990 season was by far the worst MVP season of the '90s. He didn't lead the league in a single passing statistic that year. Warren Moon had more touchdowns and passing yards, fewer interceptions, and a higher QB rating than Montana yet only finished third in MVP voting because the Oilers only went 9-7 that season. Randall Cunningham also threw for more touchdowns, had few interceptions, a higher QB rating, and accumulated over 4,400 yards of total offense. Both QBs would have been more deserving choices as MVP than Montana that season.

Steve Young’s ‘94 season was pretty dominant when you look at how he ran that offense.

Because this season has an asterisk next to it.

No way, not in a passing league. He wasn't playing in the 70's and getting the ball 100 times a game like Walter Payton.

TD is only that valuable if he's playing on the Broncos with that offensive line and those coaches teaching that blocking technique and system.

Every RB that went through that system under Shannahan had the greatest season of their lives.

'96 Brett Favre or '94 Steve Young; anybody taking anybody else during this period doesn't want to win football games.

re: Rank the AP NFL MVP winners of the 1990s
Emmitt Smith in 1993 was pretty darn valuable for the Cowboys. In 3 of their 4 losses, Smith didn't play or had 1 carry (and seemed to split carries in the 4th loss).

That being said, it's weird that he won it that year instead of any of the other years when he had double digit TDs.
