Meaning they were the primary starter for both national championship teams.

Matt Leinart, USC (2003 & 2004)
Tommie Frazier, Nebraska (1994 & 1995)
Steve Davis, Oklahoma (1974 & 1975)

He wasnt in The championship game in 03. He was in the Rose bowl. He was #1 on the AP poll.

Hence why I put "Poll Era" in my OP. It's all-encompassing.

So you agree that he was a starting quarterback for back to back National Championship teams. It doesn’t say anything about the BCS, just National Championship teams.

I wouldnt put him as a champion if he didnt play in the title game, but I see what youre saying.

Frazier laps the field on this list

It’s Frazier then everybody else on this list

If USC was national champ in 2003, UCF was national champ in 2017.
Not their fault, but they didn’t win.

He wasn’t a national champion in 03. He wasn’t in the national championship game. He was a champion according to some writers.

Matt Leinart never played in a 2003 national championship. But I kind of think the topic creator knows that

Actually according to the NCAA he was. Good thing for LSU that computers kept USC out of the title game, or SC would be consensus National Champs.

Ahh the game that determines the national champion. Got it.

Ah yes, because I’m sure if LSU had been left out of the title game but been voted overwhelmingly by the AP as National Champs you’d say that doesn’t really count.

According to the Associated Press, the NCAA, and the University of Southern California...he was.

And LSU was a champion according to some coaches. It's the way it's always been. The AP awards their champion, the Coaches award theirs, and sometimes those champions aren't the same.

I’m saying Leinhart was a paper champion in 03.
Posted on 2/28/21 at 4:39 pm to RollTide1987
Then why did they have a title game? LSU was the true champion. USC did not play in the title game.

Ok good for you. According to the NCAA he was a National Champion in 2003. So yes the OP was correct in listing him as a QB who started for back to back National Championship teams.

Didn’t play in the title game. He won a poll.
