Funny, I don't recall getting a lot of the privileges they enjoy either.

What'd you do for the school? Were you part of multi-billion dollar business that brought in millions of dollars to the school's athletic department?

I'm more in favor of allowing players to get their own endorsements

You really don't want to open that can of worms.
If that happens EVERY single FB player and signee @ Oregon will have their own "endorsement deal" with NIKE.Every AU player and recruit will have their "endorsement deal" with Yella Wood.Every FB player and signee @ Maryland will have their own "endorsement deal" with Under Armour etc,etc

Yea, cause the current system where they do the same thing but against the rules is so much better?

They should buy them insurance policies against injuries and put the rest in trust funds until their college careers are over.

So every single college FB player is being bought off at every single FBS school? You gotta link to that?

Your suggestion simply won't work and would never pass any type of vote by the big 5 schools.
It would make things far worse than it is today

Sure it won't pass any time soon, but the current system can't really get any worse, not sure what system you're looking at, this is as bad as it gets IMO.

WTF are you talking about? What's wrong with the sytem?

Let me see...record TV ratings, record revenues, graduation rates are better than they've ever been and kids are now going to get their stipend doubled.

Gee, the system is just all screwed up.Right?

This is a good move. The money they bring in is big enough that they should get some more funds to help cover other costs like laundry, personal items like soap, razors, shaving cream, and clothes.

I think you'll see universities just having football, men's basketball and the women's sports for title IX. That means women's volleyball, basketball, softball, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer and a few others.

There is no reason for men's wrestling, soccer, golf, tennis, track, crew, baseball and hockey since you have minor leagues and club teams and so on to develop your skills as a golfer. If you want to be a pro golfer you play golf and join the minor league tours. If you are good enough in tennis you don't go to college.

Wow, not sure what else to say, man.

Even the heads of the NCAA admit the system has big flaws, but you won't?

Your kidding, right? Most kids already get Pell Grants 4 to 5K per year.If you live off campus you already get a stipend check (around $900 to $1,400 per month depending on the school)the kids are also eligible for an NCAA clothing allowence and also other NCAA emergency funds.

I believe they can afford soap, ravors and shaving cream.

Once again, what exactly is wrong with the system?

What "big flaws" did the NCAA admit to?

You do know that this vote was done by the big 5
conferences outside the jurisdiction of the NCAA?

My friends at OSU on fully scholly got about $900 a month to pay for everything (rent food etc). If they just would up it to $1500 they would be good

That's plenty IMO with $400-750 on rent....can still have a $300 car payment with insurance and money for food

Yeh, he said the current system. So what will happen isn't the current system.

Really?

Ok I'll bite. What exactly is wrong with the current system? Besides title IX,which I think is an abomination.

The strict regulations that stop schools from having the OPTION to pay players even a fraction of what their market value is.

Run on all you want about the holes in the solutions. I agree with a lot of it and don't advocate an open market system for various reasons. But just because you are too unathletic to ever contribute to a profitable athletic department doesn't mean there aren't any problems with the system. It just means there aren't any problems that affect you.

Cut down on the amount of salary each coaching staff gets and that could go a ways.

Like I said, I don't see the coaches taking a cut.

How exactly are you gonna do this?

The ole personal insult card if you can't formulate a proper response.

Hey,if you can do away with title IX I'm all for getting these guys even more than what they got today BUT you can't pick and choose paying one guy more than another.
