Tulane is introducing the Louisiana Promise which will meet full financial needs, with no loans, for families making less than $100K annually.
For Louisiana residents.

And with the changes to the way the NCAA counts aid, none of that would count against the 11.7.

Great move for the school. Tulane should be going after all top LA scholars (they already do to a degree). Oh and hopefully the baseball team takes full advantage too

From the article -

quote:

Around 11 percent of Tulane’s undergraduate students come from Louisiana — Louisiana Promise will increase that number by opening access to a much wider applicant pool that reflects the diversity of New Orleans and the state.

I believe the title MAY BE misleading. I SERIOUSLY doubt that everyone who is admitted into Tulane whose family makes less than $100K will get a full, free ride. There is no way Tulane could possibly afford that.

Although the article doesn't go into detail, I STRONGLY SUSPECT that this will be a black-only deal. Poor non-blacks need not apply.

Pre Covid, maybe you have a point, but since March...I would definitely disagree.

I think you've been spending too much time in FantasyF*ckingLand.

Have you not been paying attention to what is going on in the world -- especially in academia?

Basketball players are already on full scholarship.

There are plenty of people who struggle to pay for private schools and their kids activities like baseball/softball. Nobody wants to give off the appearance that they're struggling financially but plenty of them are, especially after this year. They do it for their kids. I have a good friend who worked at a private school and heard the stories about parents begging for a little more time to pay late tuition payments. It's not all rich people.

if your parents make less than 100K combined, they pay for everything

if your parents are both teachers making 65K each, they will pay for something

if you parents are both lawyers making 250K each, they will pay for nothing

Between covid and oil issues might see lots of those over 100k dip under for a bit too

I think this is wonderful but HTF is Tulane going to afford this? Their endowment is very small when compared to the universities like Rice and Stanford that already do this.
