Why did he have to know? you think players know every detail of a contract?

They day before he fired his agent, yahoo did a story on this issue. The player was aware that he would be losing money if he skipped the offseason workouts, he told the reporter it would be up to his agent if he held out of camp for a new contract. This was prior to the offseason workouts starting.

Just fwiw, having read this thread, Brown isn't 'skipping' practice as such, he's just practicing in his own way. He always works out in Texas. It's worked for him so far as he's gotten progressively better through his career. He's not the only one, I believe Frank Gore used to work out in Miami with Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.

So let's get this straight, either

A) They planned together on a course of action that would ultimately cost Brown $2m, presumably in the hope of getting a bigger contract later on.

Or

B) His agent told him to hold out without having memorised/checked the details of his contract (btw for anyone calling this small print, it may not be written in size 22 font but I'd say it's pretty much a headline part of the deal).

I place more blame on the agent because he's a guy who probably spends all day up to his elbows in contracts. They're written in legal jargon that would be tough for anyone without a reasonable degree of experience reading such terms to decipher.

Either the agent didn't correctly relate the importance of attending the OTA, Brown ignored him or they're both stupid, but I'm thinking the former is most likely. Who wouldn't fly to San Francisco for $2m? Knowing you'll 'lose money' isn't the same as knowing you'll lose two thirds of the final year of your deal.

I think the 49ers might not be playing the smart game here because let's face it, they knew. The details leaked almost straight away and it's pretty obvious that the agent was fricking clueless so it wasn't him that did it.

Tarell Brown is the Niners best cornerback and if he walks at the end of the year because of this, or it affects his play that's an own goal right there. They need to either give it back or give it back as part of a new deal. I'm wondering if they can volunatarily just give back forfeited without breaching the CBA - we'll see.

The 49ers had that clause in the contract for a reason. I'd be very surprised if they gave any money back at all

Yeah I mean they both screwed up. The agent deserves to be fired.

Damn, he had already earned it on the field in '11 and '12 but then forgot to close the deal by showing up for off-season workouts this season. That has to sting.

Who is the Golfer poster that everyone says has insider info and thinks is David Toms?

I have met Golfer IRL and I can assure that while he does throw a great tailgate party he is not David Toms or any other celebrity.
