Pitt catches hands from the NCAA

I don't understand why this is a rule. Why is there a limit on the number of coaches that can have contact with players?

According to the NCAA, the main violations committed by both Pitt sports programs stem from allowing “noncoaching staff members,” or analysts/quality control coaches as they are most often referred to in coaching circles, to coach Pittsburgh players. This is a violation as it allowed Pitt to exceed the number of permissible coaches on staff for both sports programs.

Alabama never lets analysts coach the players.
Another shining example of how Alabama does everything the right way.

It's all about equity. Certain schools can afford to hire an unlimited number of "analysts" whereas others are not as fortunate.
I've been screaming we need to divide the FBS creating an elite tier of schools that can pay players and train them as they see fit.
Think of a division that has 30 of the best financed schools competing at the highest level. It would be incredible with no gimme weeks.

Please keep Butch on staff in any capacity.
Bama can't win a title with him!
The whole analysts deal is one big loophole Bama exploited.
You can't tell me these analysts aren't heavily involved behind the scenes. There is no way to enforce it.

Obviously I'm not a Pitt fan but they do average 40,000+ and when they're good they have sold out Heinz Field before. Not really a program that fits that description lol.

They said it’s all about “fairness” but in reality this is little schools crying that boosters can “buy” their way onto a coaching staff and then have direct and unlimited access to players.
As with everything, it’s designed to punish wealthy programs for the benefit of poor programs.

Pitt counts tickets "sold" not butts in seats. The only time their stadium fills up is if Penn State, WVU, Notre Dame, Clemson, or FSU come to town.

What constitutes "coaching"?
Are analysts not allowed to have any sort of communication with the athletes? I feel like this is a grey area

They can have contact with players, but they can’t “coach” them on the field.
This probably involves some kind of organized practices outside of the official practice times. The coaches are in the clear, but the shadow staff was used to get in more practice time.
Something like getting the backup QB reps with the offense, especially WRs, or using analysts to begin installation of a new defensive scheme during the off-season. When all the coaches, cameras, media, and attention is focused on media days prior to the season. The shadow staff is installing new schemes back on campus so the team will be ready when the official fall camp starts.
This rule is almost impossible to enforce unless it’s flagrant and ongoing. Small violations probably occur all the time.
If a non coaching staff member spends 30 seconds with a player at practice to demonstrate footwork during a drill, then that’s technically a violation.

I'm not going to defend them any further because idrgaf but based on what I've seen on TV I would bet the average Pitt game has significantly more people than say Kent State. That was the purpose of saying that lol. Not the best choice of program.
