Who you got?

Ayton or Doncic?

With the hiring of Igor Kokoskov do they pass on Doncic considering the immediate connection?

In a guard driven league does Phoenix buck the trend and go with one of the most intriguing big men we have seen in this modern age: a big man who can truly play big with his back to the basket while also being able to play 20 feet out.

I think they go with Doncic when all is said and done. Kings get another big to replace Boogie.

Thoughts..?

Ayton has a far higher ceiling and fits a bigger need.

So, based on Suns history, probably a lock they pick Doncic.

Ayton is the clear cut guy. They have Jackson and Booker and Doncic has question marks.

Due to the hiring of Kokoskov, I think it has to be Doncic.

This is going to be a great draft.

Yeah and Ayton has zero question marks

Also, I'm not sure what your Jackson/Booker reference means. The Suns have a gaping hole at PG, and Doncic is being billed as a PG.

Doncic's ceiling is every bit as high. You honestly can't screw up picking top two in this draft barring catastrophic injury or something. One guy probably ends up better, but they're both at minimum solid #2 or #3s on a really good team

Are you implying Ayton isn't the best pick? solid pgs are a lot easier to get than an Ayton. The only reason you wouldn't want Ayton is possibly bc history says tall guys don't last nearly as long as a Doncic does.

Caveat is I'm an Arizona fan, so you can accuse me of being a homer.

Ayton is 7'1, 260 and has a legitimately measured 42 inch vertical. There is no player in history with those measurables. Maybe Wilt and Shaq if you think they had a 42 inch vert.

Ayton also shot 34% from 3. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say Ayton has a combo of size, athleticism and skill that has never been seen before.

Doncic is a good prospect, but he's 6'6 and a good, but not elite, athlete. There are a lot of those guys out there. Ayton's physical ceiling is HOF. Doncic's is allstar.

I'm not saying Ayton isn't going to be the best player. There is just an obsession with finding "unicorns" in the NBA now, but there's nothing more valuable than a playmaker.

Acting like there isn't a conversation to be had here is insane.

Doncic is more than a good prospect. He's completely dominating a league with grown men. His production is much better than pretty much every European prospect we've seen in years.

Hard to argue with your assumptions.

Ayton is every bit the most lethal prospect at the center position in my lifetime: that includes: Ewing, Olajuwon, and Shaq. But, Olajuwon was considered a very unique prospect himself. He wasn't as physical as Ayton and he definitely wasn't a consistent 3-point threat, but his footwork and athleticism were incredible out of college.

Ayton is not a very good defender. That is a shame. All these guys that were drafted that I listed were indeed defensive presences. Ayton will need to develop some legitimate defensive abilities to be a hall of famer. No big man gets into the Hall who can't be a force on the defensive end of the floor.

Both Doncic and Ayton have legitimate concerns that could see them be solid starters and not All-Stars. Acting like Ayton is a sure bet while Doncic isn't is very dishonest.

The Suns if they take Doncic it tells you who they take next (Wagner) by trading out at 16.

If they take Ayton they can do tons of things including a trade 16 pick/players to get Bridges who fills Doncic role.

But you build inside out in NBA

I can't see the Suns picking more than at #1. They're trying to accelerate their timeline. The play is probably going to be to take Doncic and move for Capela/Favors in FA or take Ayton and try to trade for a PG (probably Kemba) or sign Marcus Smart for now.

You think Mikal Bridges can fill the role Doncic would fill?

I know you aren't speaking about Myles Bridges from Michigan St.

I agree with the first part of your post. Wagner very well would be their pick. He needs to get his arse in shape though. He dominated early against a very good Villanova team and them was so winded he couldn't do anything of note in pick'n roll sets Villanova runs and it destroyed his offensive production the rest of the game.

Ayton's defensive limits makes him not so much a sure bet as some people would have you believe.

I'm not this extreme and definitely think he's top two, but some nerdy/advanced stats guys had Ayton as low as 5 or 6.

Phoenix is in an interesting spot. Taking the kid in your back yard is pretty appealing, and to take Doncic, you better be damn sure he's the better prospect.

You better be sure you're taking the prospect no matter what.

The coolest thing to me is that both guys legitimately want to play for PHX.
