Congrats to all parties involved for absolutely no leaks on this.

Some of the concept is fine IMO but golf thrived without teams. The LIV implementation was beyond cringe.
Thats because LIV didnt have the network infrastructure to make it appealing. With that corporate money and the networks carrying it, now it could become awesome. Give it time...it was in year 2...obviously the PGA saw it as a threat or else we wouldn't be talking about this merger.

Make Tiger the commish and dump Monahan. Gives Tiger a nice retirement plan and we get rid of this complete clown once and for all.

I think they just saw the cash like everyone else involved in this story

I want a cold war between Team Jack vs Team Tiger vs Team Phil vs Team Greg and so on....

I know some don't like the team aspect, but i love it. This is going to create some real rivalries in the sport, which were desperately need IMO. You get the individual winner takes all traditional event and within that same event, you get the team aspect of it now too

This. Don’t get why everyone is making fun of guys like Rory - I admire his stance.
He and Tiger and the other hardliners need to push back hard against this and make it clear they won’t play with Saudi money.
But if he stays on the PGA Tour, it's hard to argue against those that call him out for all the integrity stuff he was spouting since he'd now be doing the same as the Liv bros, playing in a league funded and run by the Saudis.

Remember when there were posters here who said Brooks' win at the PGA would have absolutely no impact? I need to have Pepperidge Farm pipe in.

That is a fricking nut drag by Trump
Predicted it all along. Say what you want about him, but the bastard is savvy
Trump had experience from his USFL days.
The USFL was basically the LIV golf of its day. The league was started (in large part by New Orleanean, Dave Dixon) to bring spring football to the marketplace. But, as is human nature, competition and money got the best of some of the owners and some started to dream of competing with the NFL. They offered some really big contracts to some of the best college players in the early 80's. IIRC, Hershel Walker was the first player to forego his senior season and go pro after his junior year (which wasn't allowed by the NFL at that time).
Trump bought the NY/NJ Generals with the vision of making the USFL a direct competitor to the NFL (like the AFL in the 60's) ultimately leading to the NFL being forced to merge with the USFL. It didn't work. The USFL ended a few years later and several of the owners put much of the blame on Trump for trying to make it a thing to force the NFL's hand....which the USFL could not compete with long term because they didn't have the money.
He saw LIV as the USFL of golf. Only this time the merger has (apparently) happened. Of course, you're in a much better position to force a merger when the upstart has FAR deeper pockets than the long-standing league. That wasn't the case with the USFL. That's why Trump was wrong then and right here.

I still don't understand why LIV didn't invest huge money in readying elite picturesque courses for tournament play and going crazy on the tech. Show me Koepka hitting an iron shot on a cliff in Scotland with an 8k drone shot hanging over the edge, etc.
This is where I am on it and I don't really find the arguments for "growing the game" commercially by way of gimmicks to be especially persuasive.
The other aspect, is yes, these are 8th century barbarians and I care about conceding another aspect of western civilization.
