Hader is pretty much damaged goods at this point.

He had a two week stretch where he was super homer prone. He is still striking out over 40% of batters on the year. I could be wrong, but I’d bet on him being one of the best relievers in baseball the rest of the way.

Fair point. We'll definitely see.

The cool thing about the Padre's prize is that they still have enough capital to put around him. The Angels are the tale of how foolish it is to pay out huge contracts to megastars and then are too poor to add to the team.

There is no way I am taking a bunch of "what ifs" and "maybes" for Soto.

Well the Nats ownership situation is a part of this too. It's widely expected that they'll be sold, and this is necessary housekeeping.

The new ownership group isn't going to want their first major transaction to be offloading Juan Soto, so the selling group did their dirty work for them. New ownership will come in with a clean slate.

They got Soto without trading anyone they'll regret. Holy hell. This is staggering.

They can add to their lineup all they want. I don’t think they have the pitching to make a deep run.

I agree, and Darvish probably gets hurt before the season is over. Will they re-sign Soto when his contract ends, I doubt it, they are already saddled with foolish 12-year deal they made with Tatis - when they see this won't net them a title and I don't think it will....they won't double down, unless they are very irresponsible.

Scott Boras has been adamant that Soto will test the FA market no matter where he ended up.

Padres have 3 postseasons with Soto until that happens. If they can't win a WS in that time, then probably best to part ways with him anyway.

Tell me you have no idea who San Diegos rotation is without telling me you have no idea who San Diegos rotation is.

He hasn't been hot the last month or two certainly. But that's the exception and not the norm. Am I glad he's out of my division now, especially since we play Milwaukee this weekend? You bet your arse I am. I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Baseball may be the worst sport to follow if your team has shitty management.
God if this isn’t a true statement. Royals, Cubs, and Nats all come to mind

Yes the championships are fun but God the inability to keep talent and build on it after is infuriating

I’m very aware of who is in their rotation, and I stand by what I said.

I am just glad the Rangers were not involved. Their farm system is just now starting to not be horrible.

True, but their farm system has gotten great quick. They are a top 1-5 farm in baseball right now. With Baltimore, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and the Dodgers. We could have ended up getting Soto and Bell for less than we originally thought, while keeping a lot of top 100’s and a nice core of young guys. After seeing the price tag and Bell included I wish they pulled trigger by including Leiter in the deal.

Wow. Padres paying $44M of Hosmer deal. Red Sox only on hook for the minimum.

That's called really not wanting you around any more.

What goofball gave Eric Hosmer a no trade clause?

Hos has a 10 team no trade clause and the Nats are one of them. If this dude doesn't waive his clause it could blow up the whole thing

Did Nancy sneak that into the latest budget? Wouldn't be surprising
