ETA:
Per Brett McMurphy

quote:

Sources: Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl is new name for Las Vegas Bowl. Mitsubishi Motors signs 2-year naming rights deal. In 2020, bowl will move to Raiders’ new stadium & expected to feature Pac-12 vs. SEC

Pac 12 news. Please make this happen.

quote:

The first was news from reporter Brett McMurphy, who wrote last week that the Las Vegas Bowl plans to upgrade its pairing and move from second-rate Sam Boyd Stadium to the Raiders’ gleaming new home.

The bowl will cast aside the Mountain West, a longtime partner, and match a Power Five opponent against the Pac-12.

The SEC, McMurphy reports, is viewed as the leading contender for the spot, resulting in the only SEC/Pac-12 postseason matchup.

Don’t be surprised if the next round of bowl negotiations results in Vegas jumping into the second slot in the Pac-12 pecking order, ahead of the Alamo and the Holiday bowls.

Such a scenario would instantly add heft to the conference’s postseason.

Consider this potential lineup:

1. Rose vs. Big Ten
2. Las Vegas vs. SEC
3. Alamo vs. Big 12
4. Holiday vs. Big Ten
5. Sun vs. ACC
6. San Francisco vs. Big Ten/Mountain West/TBD
7. Cactus vs. Big 12

If the Holiday is your No. 4, that’s a fairly strong rotation, and there could be an eighth bowl added to the lineup.

Anything to replace one of the 27 indistinguishable SEC bowl games in Florida

No shite. Why not actually play bowl games against teams that you’d likely very rarely get to play. Really hope this happens.

The question is where in the SEC's pecking order might the game fall?

Hopefully Citrus so my Ed Orgeron led tigers can lose in Vegas instead of Orlando.

Would be even better getting fricked up there.

Pac12/BigXII Alamo Bowl is one of the best. The old Pac12/Big XII matchup was the Holiday Bowl, which was also great.

I wish each conference had just one bowl pairing against each other conference.

Gives us a better range of matchups each year.

They would probably like to have UGA too. We’ve traveled west very well three times in the last decade and Atlanta has direct flights to Vegas.

I used to really enjoy the bowl games. Now I feel like it is auburn plus the playoff, maybe the other new years six games, and that's it. This game would be a cool one. Hope it happens.

A bowl game in Las Vegas could easily become part of the playoffs. I'd love to see Jerry Jone's Cotton Bowl get edged out by the Las Vegas bowl. Heck, I'd love t see the Peach Bowl get pushed to the side. Make it Rose, Orange, Sugar, Fiesta, and Las Vegas. Those are places people want to go to in January.
