Managed him for 1 year. Says he "hates Nick Swisher with my heart" and that nobody else can compare to him. Ozzie also said Swisher's bs is "all an act."

quote:

Speaking on the White Sox postgame show following a 1-0 loss to the Brewers, Guillen was asked who he disliked more — Carlos Gomez or Nick Swisher — and the 2005 World Series winning manager didn’t hold back on his disdain.
quote:

Fans of the South Siders don’t have particularly fond memories of Swisher, who slashed .219/.332/.410 in 153 games with the Sox in 2008, and is often regarded as “not clutch” while with the team. Couple that with the fact that Swisher was the prized piece of a trade that sent Gio Gonzalez, Ryan Sweeney and Fautino de lo Santos to Oakland and Swisher to Chicago, and you’ve got a recipe for dislike there.

I mean, what could be fake about this guy?

That’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time

Looked him up and this part of his wiki is hilarious

quote:

On April 10, 2012, Guillén was suspended for five games by the Marlins due to comments made about former Cuban president Fidel Castro. In a Time interview Guillen said, "I love Fidel Castro ... I respect Fidel Castro. You know why? A lot of people have wanted to kill Fidel Castro for the last [53] years, but that mofo is still here."[48][49][50] The fallout from those comments was a major factor in his ouster after the season; according to Marlins baseball operations chief Larry Beinfest, the Marlins' attendance flatlined after those remarks and never recovered.[33]

Yes, Ozzie gullien making an off hand remark about Castro was the straw that broke the camels back on Marlins attendance all those years

Fair points. But you know those 17 Cuban season ticket holders were Uber pissed.

I've met Joanna Garcia and I promise even her pics don't do her justice, she's literally jaw dropping

Ozzie's evaluation of talent was horrific with the White Sox. Swisher was good in 2008; but Ozzie didn't like him so the GM gave him away to the Yankees for basically 3 AAAA players.
Carlos Quentin was the big dog on the 2008 team; Ozzie wanted him in the minors so that he could play slap hitting Jerry Owens; Ozzie's plans were foiled only when Owens got injured near the start of the season.

He successfully made it possible to name the Marlins manager. That’s basically impossible

I wouldn't dismiss it that much.

It's Miami, so it's part Cuba. And the part of Cuba that fled Castro risking death just to leave. So they hated that guy with a passion.

You could easily see why the Cuban population wouldn't show up to Marlins' games if they have a manager who loves Castro.

America would be a much better place if we had more Cuban immigration.

You missed the point, they weren’t going to Marlins games before the remarks

Swisher was great to my son pregame. Signed for him and spent a little time talking to him about baseball. He could have just signed and walked away, but he didn't.

Swisher always came off as a try hard. He was a decent player but I feel he was relevant because he was a quirk on a big team
