T. Boone Pickens, legendary energy executive, philanthropist, ardent Oklahoma State University supporter and one of America's most famous entrepreneurs, died peacefully Wednesday of natural causes at his home in the Vendome. He was 91.

Sad he never got to see the Pokes play for the National Championship.

T. Boone was a good man and made many a oilfield hand rich

re: Oklahoma State mega-booster T. Boone Pickens dies at 91
quote:

Over the years, the largest chunk of Pickens' philanthropy — $525 million — was bestowed to OSU, almost evenly divided between academics and athletics at Stillwater, where the football stadium bears his name.

Pickens' largesse to OSU prompted Texas A&M's 12th Man Magazine to label A&M's decision not to renew Pickens' $25-a-month freshman basketball scholarship as one of the top 10 mistakes in Aggie history.

Because of that tuition slight, Pickens transferred to OSU (then Oklahoma A&M), where he earned a degree in geology in 1951.

Talk about a self-inflicted Aggie joke.

Damn.

eta: That man lived the American Dream. From laborer to billionaire that chose to give away over $500 million to schools, hospitals, athletics, and charities.

Any story on what he will conttinue to give to okie light?

If not, they fricked. It's a sports school, not a college where one learns. So sports and keeping his money rolling in is everything for them.

Who will win the next NCAA rodeo and calf roping titles with out his loot?

It's only like 20 spots behind Mizzou in the WSJ rankings. Not far behind in USNews too. Not that big of a difference in the 2.

Yea it’s not OU but it’s a good school that plays a huge role in the farm, live stock and agriculture of this state.

Some of the best engineers I know went to OSU. A college’s programs are what you make of them, not what ranking some publication assigns to them.

It has a good hotel/hospitality program too. They just built a super nice new building for it.

Yeah, even though for all intents and purposes, mizzou and OSU are equal.

I even gave him 2 sources that show that so he couldn't do exactly what he did.

They started claiming 1945 a few years ago so he at least got to celebrate that.

Couldn’t the same be said about Alabama?
