LA Times article

quote:

Several inflammatory emails by Jon Gruden were filed as exhibits in federal court by attorneys for Washington Football Team owner Daniel Snyder in mid-June, almost four months before they were leaked to two newspapers and led to Gruden’s resignation as coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.

The heavily redacted emails between Gruden and then-Redskins president Bruce Allen filed in U.S. District Court in Arizona include offensive language, chummy conversations with journalists — including an ESPN journalist referring to Allen as “Mr. Editor” while seeking feedback on an unpublished story he sent to Allen to review — and a barrage of complaints about the state of the NFL.

quote:

Several emails between Allen and journalists are part of the filing too. In one of them from July 2011, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter sent Allen the draft of an unpublished story that was published later the same day.

“Please let me know if you see anything that should be added, changed, tweaked,” Schefter wrote. “Thanks, Mr. Editor, for that and the trust. Plan to file this to espn about 6 am ….”

ESPN released the following statement in response to the correspondence: “Without sharing all the specifics of the reporter’s process for a story from 10 years ago during the NFL lockout, we believe that nothing is more important to Adam and ESPN than providing fans the most accurate, fair and complete story.”

The emails were filed as part of an effort by Snyder’s legal team to compel Allen to produce discovery in connection with a defamation lawsuit Snyder is pursuing in India against a media company called MEAWW for stories it published in July 2020.

The correspondence with media, including Gruden, Schefter and others covering the team, refuted Allen’s sworn statement he “maintained a low profile with respect to the media” and “never served as an anonymous source for any news or media reports.”

Did this all go down bc Dan Snyder wanted to sue an Indian news company?

Coming up in the emails in this regard is about right. I can’t imagine that dork saying anything inappropriate

Have you seen him catch a football? He was definitely the equipment manager type of kid in high school

Basically, Schefter was letting Bruce Allen edit stories about the Redskins or about other NFL subjects before they were reported by ESPN.

Hate to break it to everyone, but writers and journalists let article subjects and sources read their stories for accuracy all the time before they go to print. The public just never knows about it.

Schefter and others do this to cover their asses if another party disputes the story or someone challenges the truth of it... Or just simply to get it right.

Is it slightly unethical? Yes, probably. But is it necessary sometimes, absolutely.

Most people would probably be shocked at how many attorneys and politicians and executives, etc have approved or cahneged details in stories before they go out. That's just thee way it is now.

It’s looking like it, and Jeffrey Epstein is also a key player in the drama.

Dan Snyder owed former team president Bruce Allen money. Snyder refused to pay him, so Allen sued. The case never made it to trial because two sides agreed to arbitration, which ruled in Allen’s favor.

Snyder went after Allen again in a legal battle with a group of minority shareholders. The group was trying to get Snyder to sell his 60% interest in the team. Snyder accused Allen of leaking information harmful to Snyder to the group so they could use it to force Snyder to sell. Snyder won the battle with the other shareholders, and recently purchased the remaining 40%. He now owns 100% of WFT.

Snyder is currently suing a media company in India for defamation because they claimed Snyder and Epstein had a close personal relationship.

Snyder filed a discovery motion to get Allen’s emails to show Allen had regular communications with media members, and was the source of numerous leaks during his tenure as team president. Insinuating if Allen had ever leaked information to the US sports media, then he might have leaked erroneous information to this Indian media company.

Gruden worked at ESPN when he sent the infamous emails to Bruce Allen, so his communication was included in the court documents. That’s why Schefter is also being tied to the story.

Summary: Daniel Snyder hates Bruce Allen, and lost a legal battle against him earlier this year. Snyder was also involved in two other cases around the same time. Although Allen was not directly involved in either case, Snyder pulled him into the fracas. Snyder seems convinced Allen is trying to destroy him. He’s using the protection of the courts to legally uncover any dirt on Allen.

Gruden was collateral damage. His name was redacted, but the court didn’t redact his email address in the documents. It appears to be a clerical error that exposed Gruden as the author of the emails.

Schefter gives figurative handjobs to league sources he wants info from and a tug session got leaked because Daniel Snyder sued media in India for repeating a rumor about him and Epstein that probably came from the wife of the alcoholic former Redskins GM.

Nothin sleazy about all that.

If you’re a Dim, you are allowed to create news stories out of thin air, and the reporter checks none of it

There's a fine line between giving a sauce the opportunity to respond/correct and letting them control the narrative.

Former GM Scot McCloughan's wife said Russini gave her husband blowjobs to get inside info. She's the same one who allegedly gave the Indian media info about Snyder and Epstein, which is why Snyder sued the Indian media for defamation resulting in the leaking of these emails.
